My bf stupidly left my tank open with my scorp in to reduce condensation. . its a 5 inch king emperor, problem is the scorpion climbed out n dropped 3 ft from the kitchen surface to the hard kitchen floor. . . he told me what had happened as when I came home i had to find n catch my scorp. It seems to be ok n is actually more active than the past few days. . .are they as delicate as tarantulas with falls? Or are scorpions robust enuff to withstand falls? shud i be lookin for leaking fluid? if so what colour? btw i havnt had the guts to hold the scorp yet . . it seems to be trigger happy with its tail lol . . so me holding it to inspect it will be out of the question at the time . . thanks

If it is not bleeding (clear fluid) then it will be okay. Scorpions are a lot durable than tarantulas BUT constantly falling on hard surfaces will kill it!

u cant honestly tell her it WILL be ok...there could be internal damage. Welsh, make sure to observe the emp VERY carefully over the next few days to see if theres any signs of pain or stress, if u notice any weird movement, the tail laying flat down on the ground or little to no movement u may have issues. if not after about 3-5 days then it should be ok.

Yes, eventually, hahaha. ...but of old age hopefully. Kinda sounds like it's OK since it's so active. Maybe he's a little PO'd lol.

didnt mean it like that....i said it should be ok, but its not a guaranty...when u say it WILL be ok it implies dont worry about it, no problem. i think we should at least take the measures to monitor the animal for a few days to make sure its ok before assuming a 3 foot drop is perfectly fine. no argument wanted tho, im sorry for making it seem as if i was saying the same thing u did.

The emperor scorpion I owned previously I dropped her 3 times from heights of 4 feet or more. She landed once on the carpet, once on the bar stool, and once on her enclosure lid. She broke one of her legs. She did well. You know what killed her? I did not turn on the heat during a 3 day cold period and she died because my apartment got to cold! My Asian Forest Scorpion died as well.

dang welsh... another something you didn't need to worry about

scorps are tough, though. emps are probably the least able to survive falls due to a higher volume to surface area ratio... but they are still better able to survive falls than tarantulas, as has been mentioned

unfortunately, without a series of cat scans, mri's, and other tests we can't know just what is going on in your bug... but not dying already is definitely a good sign :)

edit;
and at least your bf is taking something of an interest in your bugs, and trying to help out! much much better than indifference or animosity! it seems like quite a few ppl on the boards have sig. others that wouldn't try to better their bugs' lot... so it's not all bad news =P

It is true that Scorpions are a little more durable than T's. But I would still wait a week or so before you come to any conclusions. Scorpions are very hardy, tough and robust. Some species can adapt to a lot too.

aside from making sure it has easy access to water there really isn't much you can do but wait

you'll know if a wet species like that croaks even ifyou can't see it... it starts smelling like rotten seafood

when i started keeping bugs i couldn't eat any seafood comfortably for like a year and couldn't eat crabs for even longer than that =P now i am back to eating everything (sometimes to my detriment hehehehe)

Sorry that sucks. I bet the robbers thought there would be some expensive reptile in the tank. When they saw it was a scorp. I bet they freaked out and dropped it. They where brave enough to steal, and pissed there pants cus of a scorp. Maybe they will at least think twice about doing it again. Again sorry robbers are scum.
