Many of you always ask about toxin research. Many people outside the forum, and likely inside too (all things being equal), are against basic, scientific research unless it's going to lead to someone making money. Many years ago, I was in a meeting with Eye of Newt Gingrich, and that's what he said- leave it to a conservative to be shortsighted when it comes to scientific value. That was a different Republican party too, now the peeps in power are worse on this issue.
You never know where basic research is going to tell you, and that's important to remember here.
In any event, there's an article I saved, thought I'd share. It proves there is value in basic, scientific research. There is value in the US tax dollars funding projects that seem incredibly "odd" to those who have no scientific background at all (the elected officials of the US's government, at all levels (local/state/federal). Nothing like having non-experts making decisions on spending, it's like asking a car mechanic for advice on your neurosurgery operation for tumor removal- good luck w/that approach.

@DaveM a bit of biochem for you, albeit not structural from the outset.

GLP-1 drugs are transforming diabetes, obesity and more. Could a Nobel be next?
If the discoveries that gave us Ozempic and Mounjaro find their way to the Nobel spotlight, who would win? Here’s the story of which scientists did what.
