WHy does my spider have a fupa?

My B. Smithi molted today, and pardon the crappy photo, but look! Anyone else seen this? Is it bad? What went wrong? It has this crazy pimple thing and it's freaking me out!

I did add a pic, and when I look at this thread I can see it. Did I do something wrong in posting it I wonder? The pimple thing is on the bottom of the abdomen, and if you haven't heard the acronym FUPA, you have to email me for the explanation.

Well, it has molted again (already), and the lump is still there. I have also learned how to post pics since the other post. (although my camera still sucks). It looks like one giant blob below the booklungs. Common deformity? :? Anyone seen this? Shouldn't affect anything, right?

I haven't heard of this in B. smithi, but B. albopilosum are known for developing a lump (often fluid-filled), on the ventral side of the abdomen, usually right between the booklungs. I had a B. albopilosum that had this affliction for quite a while, shed one day, and it was gone. No ill effects whatsoever. In other cases, the lump ruptured and the resulting wound was fatal. I'm not sure what caused this on your B. smithi (to be honest, I can't even see it in the picture), but I'd just keep a close eye on it, and you might consider changing substrates. I'm not sure what you're using now, but something less abrasive might be helpful.

I can't even see the lump which was descibed as a fupa? which I don't understand...

Yup, definately a fupa if I ever saw one. Big one too.

I always think they look to my layman's eye like a kind of hernia.

Anyone know much about fupas in tarantulas?

Listen... the "cancer" thing is really cracking me up... this has to be one of the funniest threads in a long time, and I'm not even sure why.

Ok, in all seriousness: Are you sure that there's a lump or "pimple" there? From what I can see, which is not much, it just looks like normal wear and tear. If there is just some "hair" missing down there, that's not too uncommon, and is not viewed as a problem. Sorry for finding this thread amusing. I really hope your tarantula pulls through.
