Who uses moonlight bulbs?

I'm pretty sure they're not the same as blacklight bulbs as my scorps don't glow under this light. The effect is still beautiful though as the whole tank has a soft glow and I can pretend that it's tropical West Africa under a full moon.

wow, that sounds fabulous, please let me know more about this, as my scorpions are in a situation where i need to find some sort of light source. They are currently spending 99% of their time in complete darkness due to circumstances beyond my control.

They really don't need any night time lighting... Regardless though the moonlight bulbs if I'm not mistaken are just blue light bulbs sold for more money.

It's not so much that I think they need nighttime lighting at all, but I am pretty sure it is not good for their circadian rhythm to be in constant darkness, so I was thinking of setting up something gentle to light them during the day.

Your right being in a continual state of darkness probably won't be good for them as they won't be able to regulate their circadian rhythms, nightime lighting is not a good idea, scorpions in the wild are inactive during nights where a full moon is present as they deem it too bright to be out, a moonlight bulb would not doubt trigger the same behaviour in captivity. If you want daylight you can't beat natural light, the UV component (not present from most lightbulbs) is probably the most important spectral component in regulation of bio-rhythms.

My scorps are quite active at night with the moonlight bulb on (Exo Terra makes them under the brand name Night Glo - the glass is a dark purple-blue colour). If they were in complete darkness, I wouldn't be able to see them do their thing! The light is quite faint, even at 75W in my 29g tank and adds little heat to the tank.

I'm pretty sure they can't see the wavelengths produced by those lights anyway. They are more for heating.

I think the literature tends to agree that they can observe the blue end of the spectrum, the debate arises over shorter wavelengths in the UV.

There are many places that sell fluorescent lamps boasting 28000kelvin(very close to natural light). Are these harmful to scorpions?

I use/used this bulb with my H. Spinifer, and he was pretty active at nite. I could hear him walking around the tank at nite when i was sleeping sometimes. I even left my webcam on some nights. I forgot abuot those until i cleaned out my files, and found it was full of 3 gigs worth of movies that i forgot i made. Only one was worth it though.

But ya, I dont think it bothered him at all. Well, we'll see with the next one I guess.

I use a 25w exo terra Nightglo Bulb, they actually cause my scorpion to slightly glow up but not as much as a UV blacklight, I feel that they give off a nice ambient light source . I also have a 50w night glo which I used to use with my 30 x 30 x30 terrarium and found it actually gives off a lot more light than the 25 w and also generates a lot heat so much so I ended up burning my hand, yet I used a 40w red nightlight bulb and that doesn't even give off as much heat.

I suppose, but is it still gonna be useful to the OP four years later?

I have a crap load of these bulbs brand new in boxes, never used them, but they are neat looking. If anyone is interested in them i would trade them off cheaply.

I'm thinking that you might want to make that a local pick up deal only. I'm not sure how well lightbulbs would hold up under Postal shipping. They are not nearly as careful as the delivery guys who get the bulbs to the stores.

^ if they give off some heat and great for viewing and don't emit any UV rays, then where do I sign? Sounds like a good choice.
