My blondis bug me way more than my smithis, but i dont handle them so it might just be the amount of hair that gets kiked around her(blondi) tank.

interesting....could it be nervousness? or a mental itch think maybe?

also i dontknow if this hasbeen studdied. but tarantulas have saliva right? and they groom lot right? well alot of people seem to have allergic reactions to Urticating bristles(the one that have them anyway) and from what ive read there hasnt been any major studies on this subject (other than theres 6 known types of U bristles) but could it be possible that when Ts are grooming there acually coating these bristles with saliva? which in turn has some sort of adverse affect on predators? kinda like a extra precautionary defense. maybe the bristles are just delivery devices of the saliva or maybe there both mentto irritate?......any insight?

the only hairs i've ever been bothered by are avic hair, brachy hair and rosie hair. i have 2 8"+ T. blondi and their hairs have almost no affect on me.

This has been my thoughts also. The reaction I have from the Brachypelmas is way worse than all the others combined. The T.blondi just make me itch for a day at most but all the brachy's I have kill me for at lest a week. The reaction from person to person reminds me of allergic reaction from cat saliva (most people are not allergic to hair but the saliva on the dog or cat hair)

I have gotten more sensitive to the hair the older i get. When i was younger I had a B.smithi and it didn't bother me at all. the more i work with them and the older i get they bother me more and more

For me it seems to be Pamphobeteus spp that bother me the most. I don't really get too much of a reaction form Brachys, or even Therephosa's.

For me its my B.Emilia or any of the brachy's. I itch all over when they flick even once. I don't know if you guys do this but every time I they flick at me, I back away and blow all over the place. :?

But i still end up itching. :wall: :(

Urticating bristles affect people differently. People with more sensitive skin would probably feel the effects more severely.

For me, A. geniculata and B. smithi are the worst. All of my specimens (B. smithi and A. geniculata specimens that is) kick too so, when I did maintenance on all of them a few weeks back, my hands felt like they were on fire for about a week.

In response to the 'do Ts have saliva?' question - No. Saliva is a digestive enzyme used to start breaking down the food in the mouth. Ts inject venom, which digests their food so they can suck it up. You could say that T venom is their saliva but that would be like me saying this apple I have right here is my orange.

I would have to say my wife's hair. That stuff gets everywhere! Especially in my nose!

Seriously though, I've never been effected by urticating setae until I sexed my Lp molt. It was so bad I got blisters!
