lol i own a feisty emperor scorpion. she is still quite small but eats a handfull LOL
i noticed my scorp AKA Houdini ; because he escaped when i first received him, only eats when i clamp the cricket with the tweezers and place it close to his claws. he would leave the cricket up harmed and uneaten if i dont do this
... is this normal? should i do this? .... sorta kills all the fun of watching him eat it{D

They should attempt to catch it after awhile. Scorpions that notice you, and get stressed out often will not feed until well after you stopped bothering them.

I have a cavi that I've never seen eat. I know that is the fun part. Approach quietly, don't use bright light, and discreetly place the cricket in there.

Good luck. Tweezers are used for handling just about anything.

Not so unusual in my very humble opinion.
Particularly if you started it off like this.
Also, you may not be taking into account the stimulation you provide by waving the worm at it. Scorpions in the wild aren't obese all the time. They have droughts and the like. So in the tank, you think it won't eat the cricket without "tongs", when in reality, its the tongs exciting or bothering it into eating. Even if I was full and content, and laying in bed, if someone puts a filet mignon on a fish hook and waves it in my face, I will grab it and eat it. But I'm not going to get up and cook either. Make sense? I hope so.
I try to make analogies, but I fear they get lost sometimes. :?

if you are stealthy and good with hands then that's the best method to feed your scorps. Virtually eliminates any possibility of mites, lets you control what and how much, an individual is eating.

yes and no i fear. It certainly doesn't eliminate the chance of mites, because they drop little pieces, many of which you won't see, shells crack, etc. A piece of cricket leg the size of a pin head can feed a colony of mines. You aren't eliminating it. You are probably lowering the odds though. Just don't let it replace checking for crumbs! :)

I use a long skewer to herd the cricket into the scorpion's burrow and it works fine. The scorpion doesn't seem to be bothered by it and doesn't run away. It's usually the vibrations that scare it off, but this method doesn't frighten mine (as I don't touch any part of the tank) and it's pretty fun when I succeed at getting him killed {D. I'm surprised your scorpions don't hide when you feed with tongs.

I feel your pain. All my forest scorps (P cavi, Het Spinifer, Het Longimanus, etc.) and my dessert hairies are so sensitive to vibration, just taking the lid off or unlocking the cage makes them shoot into the burrow. I usually have to toss in crickets and let them eat at their own pace or open the cages, wait like 10 or 15 mins for them to come back to the burrow entrance, and then toss in the crickets for them to eat.

Oddly enough though, none of my guys eat crickets off of the long tweezers. Always spooks them back into the burrow. I have to let the crickets walk up to the burrow to get snatched.
