Agree...its a pet peeve for me to go to someone's profile, only to find they were too lazy to list their animals.
Haha, don't go looking at mine then. :p
I've had dealers look at my list and pre-pick freebies for me, including someone giving me a dwarf sized T, as they noticed I had a few dwarfs.

I've received more quality freebies as a result of having a list, and getting to know the dealer, that much I know.
That's a whole lot of speculation there man. How do you know you got better freebies than someone without a listing? Did you confer with someone without a listing that bought the same thing as you only to find they had received something else of lesser value? Did the dealer tell you he gave you better freebies because of the profile list? How would you even know? :pompous:

I expect it had more to do with you making friends with the dealer and less with your profile listing. People you know tend to give you better stuff if they like you. I've got some really nice freebies on here and FB by getting to know the people I'm buying from. I got two free slings from a nice girl I talked to. She was selling at a reptile show. I bought a recommended one from her and that's how I got started in inverts.

Not in Doncaster exactly, but not that far away either. I'm in West Yorkshire and Donnie is South Yorkshire. Can't wait for the show in June!
Ah, I asked because I was getting a package from Pete at H.I.T.S but he gave me tracking for Doncaster by mistake an I remembered you said you live in the north so I thought may be you

Oh I see! Well, it should be with you soon regardless, I'd think. What did you order??

Good luck! My AF (I think it is adult anyway, definitely female) seemanni has barricated herself into her enclosure after doing some major digging around. Haven't seen her in a couple days which is fairly unusual but oh well.

Heheh. A. seemanni are one of the best diggers. Shame I have already named my oldest female G. pulchra 'JCB'

I don't have a list of everything I own but figure I'll post a few genus where I am continuing to work to expand. Here are the ones I own.

Aphonopelma hentzi
Aphonopelma eutylenum
Aphonopelma gabeli
Aphonopelma marxi
Aphonopelma iodius
Aphonopelma chalcodes
There are multiple other North American Aphonopelma I would like to get if I can find them. All of mine are 1/4" - 1/2" size sling. I just spotted belindae and hopefully will obtain it next. It is ashamed that bicoloratum is hard to find. It is perhaps the most colorful in comparison to brachy's but has been depleted by bad people who only care about their wallet.

Psalmopoeus cambridgei
Psalmopoeus ecclesiasticus
Psalmopoeus irminia
Psalmopoeus pulcher
Psalmopoeus reduncus
I love the Psalmopoeus. Everything I own is slings except for a couple pulchers and one cambridgei that are perhaps juvenile level now. I would love to find emeraldus and langenbucheri. Victori is only in my dreams since I don't think it is even selling in Europe yet.

Tapinauchenius cupreus
Tapinauchenius violaceus
Tapinauchenius sp. Colombia
Tapinauchenius gigas
Tapinauchenius plumipes
Tapinauchenius sanctivincenti
Everyone worries about the tapi's because they have the labels of being fast and skittish which can seem problematic. But as a newbie, I have had zero problems with mine. They tend to go down in the enclosure toward the substrate if scared. My gigas will sit right where they are at without moving (not so skittish). I still come prepared for worst case scenario for feeding time. I have a couple females and several of each species in slings.

I am tired of this problem where I don't have one of every species.:wacky:

There's a "whole lot of speculation man" on your part in your reply hahah. :D I'll break it down for you Mr. Pompous.

1. I never claimed, nor implied I received better freebies than someone without a listing. Please point to where I specifically mentioned this?

2. All of the dealers that provided me a quality freebie told me they did so because they had looked at my list. In point of fact only 2 provided me a freebie because they knew something about me due to PREVIOUS friendship or conversations. (freebie is subjective of course, my quality freebie may not be quality to someone else mind you)

3. I know the above to be true because every time I received a quality freebie, I asked the person "what made you do that/how did you know", the reply was always "I looked at your list"

I always ask, you think I receive and say "thanks", and that's it? HAHAH ;)

Based on the above data that is how I know I received better freebies than if I didn't have a list. :p:cool:

Maybe it's because I've bought from here, FB and local people I've met at shows that the profile list just really doesn't seem to matter all that much.

Perhaps all the sellers you've bought from did pick out the perfect T just for you from studying your list. If so, I need those guys to give one of my Aunts a few Christmas shopping tips. No matter what hints my family gives her, all she gets me every year is some bland sweater that I'll never wear. :p

I've got great freebies from a number of people on FB and from the local people I connected with at shows. No lists there. Getting to know the people I buy from and going to them first when I'm looking often nets me better than normal prices and nice freebies. It's also got me some early peeks at things for sale before they go up on some of the normal spots. Which is kinda nice too. That's got more to do with buyer/seller relationship than anything else though.

On another note, I will say almost all of them use what I bought as a way to gauge what freebie I might want when I first bought from them. If I only bought NW then my freebie was a NW. With OW it could go either way. I've never had anyone give me an OW the first time I bought from them if I only ordered NW Ts. If they knew me from before they will drop in either regardless of what I bought because they know I keep both. I think this is used more than anything when most sellers pick out freebies when people they don't know buys from them.

I can say for my part though out of all the Ts I've bought on here I've never had anyone mention my lack of a list for freebie selection. None of them has hinted that they could have picked me out something better if I only had made a list.

If having a list works for you that's great. For me, from my purchises, it seems like an obscure AB profile list wouldn't have made much differance and that it's just not a big deal. :D

I think sellers do this in a wide variety of ways. I don't think most online website retailers knew who I was on here (at least until I did a review for them) so a list wouldn't have mattered. Some of my freebies have been additional T's of same species that I am already ordering. I got a couple Pumpkin Patch slings for buying a Pumpkin Patch female as an example. I did get an OW freebie after ordering NW's (but I am happy with it now). And the people who did that mistake also had daytime jobs. I regret that I ever even mentioned it now. One order had the freebie based on amount spent. I was willing to spend an extra $50 or so, to get the free B. klassi sling on that order. Freebies are nice and fun, but I will never weigh them very much in my thoughts about that vendor as long as they get the important stuff right.

@Trenor , at the very least, it would eliminate this thread which seems to pop up brand new practically monthly. If all profiles had their list posted, no one would ever need to start a frivolous thread like this (over and over again) and all the newcomers wouldn't have to constantly ask what everyone is keeping and people would know who to talk to about specific species.

I just don't understand why one is on an active tarantula forum, but at the same time, won't take a few minutes to show their list...why the secrecy?

To each their own, I just don't understand why one wouldn't want to post their list. I mean there is certainly an upside to posting a list.....but absolutely no downside. For me posting a list while active on a forum is like wearing a seatbelt when I drive.....no I don't have to, but doing so can only be beneficial, even if it ultimately doesn't matter most days.

There is no "perhaps", nor "if", the information I provided you earlier I learned by asking the sellers. I did not fabricate it, they are facts, not alternative facts or any variation of not true/supposition etc (being politically aware, I know you'll appreciate that ;) ) case closed :p

Everything you wrote regarding knowing a seller, getting better pricing/freebies, seller gauging a good T for you due to previous buying habits, have all happened to me as well. I completely agree with you a good vendor/consumer relationship pays off in many different ways, often unexpected in my opinion.

I can only speak about my experiences, what has happened to me as a result of having a list. I cannot speak on another person's experience w/ or w/out a list ;)

Why you want to remove the fun? :(
So what's next? To list on the profile maybe even the name/s (if someone gave their T's a name) so... no more "do you name your T's" threads? :-/

I was doing a list on my profile and this same discussion occurred on a thread of this same sort a few months ago. So I just kind of started letting my list get out of date and finally deleted it. I will update my profile with mine in the next several days.

I think threads like this would be much more useful if people talked about the T's they own instead of just listing them. While I do like the idea of knowing who I might seek for opinions as a rookie, I will admit that I hardly even read anyone's list in a thread that doesn't have some text with it. The nice thing about talking about your T's is that it brings out new and interesting facts and opinions that many new people will never find in searches.
