Best in terms of what?

Feeding response: G. iherengi (pretty hard to argue against this one)

Beauty: G. iherengi (subjective, as they're all attractive in their own way)

Minimal feeding/long life: G. porteri/rosea (fasting for 1-2 years is commonplace in adults, and females can live 30+ years)

Beginner keepers: G. pulchripes (checks all of the boxes for an ideal starter T)

Just being a big black spider: G. pulchra/quirogai

I agree wholeheartedly with everything stated above about iheringi, and @nicodimus22 is spot on with his list. However, there is a boatload of subjectivity inherent in the question posed. Example being, I mean what I said in my opening sentence, but if I had to give up every spider I owned save one (and one of them is an iheringi) the keeper would be my Rosie. Grammies aren’t my favorite genus, and I have several species that have characteristics that are outstanding. But my G. rosea has her eight legs wrapped tightly around my heart. She is EVERYTHING a spider should be. Heck, I like her better than some of my family members.

I personally find the combination of silvery gray setae and rose colored carapace of G. rosea "NCF/porteri" to be stunning. It's also nice to have a few calm, extremely low maintenance spiders to go along with a collection of not so calm spiders.

What species of Grammastola is the best of them all in this family and why?

Which is the most active? Colorful? and has a fierce feeding response?
I would say the best would be the one you do not have. If you don't own any then start collecting them one at a time. I like G. pulchripes.

G pulchripes has it all. Decent size, decent growth, good eaters, amazing colours, especially the surprising pink aura on the carapace, active (mine goes for a walk towards my light every night when I do my midnight check in), and visible. The perfect T in many, many respects.

I have G. iheringi and pulchra. Neither hide away. Not even to moult. Both are stunners. But that's where the similarities stop. The iheringi lass is just a blur of legs when there's food. Will run the full length of her enclosure.

Wouldn't be without either but if you want "the whole package" go with the iheringi.

G. Iheringi gets my vote. Only grammastola I own and it is absolutely gorgeous. Fairly fast growth so far and an awesome feeding response.
