Which Pokie to get?

so as much as I've said from the start that i would never get a pokie. Their speed and venom combined scared me.

But, after having my OBT (sling), l.nigerrium arboricola (juvie 2"),C.meridionalis (sling),C.darlingi (sling) and P.muticus (juvie 3-4"), i've decided that as much as i love my NW species im starting to fall in love with the burrowers and arboreals of the OW as well. All the ones i own as of yet are slings or juvies (Queenie being my biggest at about 3" or so, i didn't get a proper measure as i didint want to disturb her) i am now wondering what would you guys recommend as my fist pokie?

It could be anything from temperament to colours wise, i would love to hear everyone opinions.

I've always found P. metallica to be the best Pokie in terms of temperament, colours, mine have never been skittish, they're easy to care for, just be prepared for a super quick arboreal, they are an awesome addition to any collection, if you're ready for one.

I don't have any experience with OW yet (I just ordered my first two w00t!), but are you sure you don't want to wait until the ones you have are a little bit older? OW slings are really not that difficult to care for compared to the full grown ones. So, even if you have some experience with OW slings, it is not the same as having experience with juvies and fully grown specimen.

Of course it is entirely up to you. Pokies really grow quickly from what I've heard, so they may not gradually make you ready for the big ones.

I've always found P. metallica to be the best Pokie in terms of temperament, colours, mine have never been skittish, they're easy to care for, just be prepared for a super quick arboreal, they are an awesome addition to any collection, if you're ready for one.

Once you have more experience, you'll notice huge differences between Poecilotheria sp.
A sling is a great way to start out with a Pokie, you'll gain more experience the longer you have it, but don't be complacent just because it's a sling, they can't half move, almost teleport speed, good choice though, get it and enjoy, research the sp. thoroughly, then if you need advice on set-up etc. Post another thread, you'll get all the advice you need.

im thinking ill go with the regalis. Its not as expensive as metallica but is a lovely looking t. thanks for the help!

I own both a P. metallica and a P. rufilata. The color on both of them is stunning. I am a sucker for green and blue Ts.

P. regalis are beautiful as well, I had a MM from it was a sling as well as my P. metallica, they're both excellent eaters, they won't disappoint, believe me!

I am the same, they indeed grow fastest when they are tiny and the change in appearance is most dramatic when they are small

My metallica is my most skittish of the 6 pokies I own. Perhaps a P. Vittata would be good if you must have one. They tend to be on the smaller side for the genus. I wouldn't say that pokies grow that quickly, especially compared to other arboreals like psalmoeps. If you already have OW like Lampropelma, then pokies not a huge leap in my opinion.

I would say rufilata. They are some of the biggest and hardiest pokies. The green and red is gorgeous, and from ehat I've read they mellow out when older. Decently inexpensive in comparison to other pokes. Definitly more expensive than regalis, but I think they are a little more unique

My P.mettallica have been extremely skittish and flighty, not defensive but they bolt more then any of my other Poecilotheria spp. P.rufilata takes second place.

P.ornata are the most defensive by far out of all my specimens, sometimes they go straight into threat pose as soon as I flip on the light switch. I wouldn't recommend either of those species based on my personal experiences around them.

I have two female P.regalis that are pretty mellow, they both just retreat to their hides when spooked. They eat great too and have beautiful coloration, pretty much the classic all around pokie.

Last but not least I would recommend P.subfusca (lowland), reasonably calm and have been voracious eaters. They are incredibly beautiful as well and aren't as common.

This may be entirely subjective, but my 5" female P.Fasciata is the most relaxed pokie I've ever come across. Minus her explosive feeding responses, she has never ever caused me to shed a single bead of anxiety induced sweat.

Any pokie is a great buy. They're all stunners. My personal favourite regarding looks is the Poecilotheria subfusca lowland. But they're all lookers.

Poecilotheria subfusca Highland are amazing. Don't fall for that lowland propaganda.

Poecilotheria metallica are even better. Overrated they are not.

rufilata are interesting because they get so large but look very full in person compared to other pokies. Still lworth getting for their size. They are barely green in normal room lighting, 90% brown.

Every pokie is amazing, ornata can look like rufilata but eventually look much nicer as adults. They are the second largest pokie I believe.

Right, each individual has its own personality, wish my specimens were calmer.

My first foray into the world of Pokies was a P. subfusca "Lowland" sling.

Can be a little skittish sometimes but it's a great eater.
