yes crushing the head does not kill roaches, they still run around a bit because they have 2 brains and will only die from starvation or dehydration... but they do not dig I supose since they cant see, the light does not bother them... I am feeding these NC nymphs with crushed heads to SPIDERLINGS, which will not be eating headless NC roaches for the rest of their lives. the crushing of heads works quite well. when my baby spiders big enough to eat larger NC roaches (that do not dig but only hide.) I will stop crushing heads... I prefer not crush the heads when I do not need to. at first I planned to buy a second species of roach specificly for the feeding of my baby spiders. and possibly a few of the adults to my larger spiders.... since I nolonger have a problem with the burrowing baby roaches, I put my money to a roach specificly for the older larger spiders. but even still I do not find it helpfull to insult people who do like to kill dismember or cripple prey before feeding to spiders. I already dismember fruit flies (yes I dismember 3 mm long insects) for the smallest of my spiders, who is somewhat shy and fearfull of everything as a 0.25" (used to be even smaller) LS A Anax sling. I did the same thing for my Lasiodora parahybana, both of whom started at 0.25" LS aswell. does this mean that these spiders are boring? I hardly think so.

I have a ton of N cinerea- Lobster roaches. they always seem to be breeding and I always have a more than adequate selection of size. however when I am feeding my burrowing slings (varying sizes, smaller than 1.5 inches) the cockroaches dig and burry themselves which is quite annoying because the spiders cant find the roach. when feeding I now use a red lamp so they are not as inclined to hide from the light, but the roaches still dig, just not as much. this is quite annoying. most people dont like the climbing... the climbing doesn't bother me at all. I have found there to actually be some bennefits to the climbing.

so now I am looking into other species of roaches. something that breeds well like NC does but doesn't have to be quite as prolific as NC, just one where I could estabolish a feeder colony relatively quickly and cheaply. ability to climb matters not. but quick digging nymphs is annoying. any ideas as to which roach species would be a good candidate for me??
i breed and use dubia roaches as a feeder roach...check if thats gonna work for you
