Where to go scorpion hunting??

I thought it might be a little fun to go scorpion hunting when we (rob and i) go back down to my home state in texas. Any good places that anybody knows of to go hunting down there?? And what supplies we might need when we do go?

When I was in San Antonio I found several C vittatus. We were hunting at night with black lights but I am sure you could find as many if not more flipping rocks during the day.
If you want to find even more variety go further West such as El Paso or surrounding area.

hehe, thanks. I was hoping for something a little closer to home (dfw area) but we're going to be down there for awhile so I'm sure no one will mind us traveling about. LOL

The Big Bend National Park in Texas has some really interesting scorpion fauna

I, myself, will be headin' for Tejas this spring for 3-4 weeks of collecting in Austin and West Texas. Good luck with the "hunt".

well, see, I visit my grandparents alot in Tuscon, they have lots of desert land around their place, so I can find anything there (specifically H. Arizonensis, H. Spadix, S. Mesaensis, V. Spinigerus, V. Confuscus, Centuroides Exilicauda), and around here, its a little bit more north of the desert, but I find many Solphugids, V. Spinigerus, lots of different T's, and a few scorpions that I've only seen maybe once or twice in my life..y'know some of those elusive ones that no one knows what they are...

That will be my first stop for collecting in Texas - several areas along the Rio Grande westward to Brewster County and D. whitei!

you will have luck there for sure i did when i went out there

it was nice but i didnt keep anything like an idiot
i should have kept the diplocentrus lindo's and the 1 D.whitei
along with a ton of C.vittatus but have fun you will like it

Should be interesting - rattlers, cacti and scorps - a dream come true! LOL

I actually have a pretty good guide and Texas travel mentor (Kari McWest) so, I should get on quite well and hopefully, collect a few nice scorps including D. whitei and V. intermedius.
Kari's like a livin' atlas of Texas and has been an invaluable source of info for this Detroit City boy! LOL
