any one know where is a good place to find scorpions in SOCAL?
im near LA and don't mind going to the deserts at night, just looking to know where to find scorps since i bought the UV lights for hunting scorpions and never used it, so now thinking of going out and hunting down some scorpions.

I've had allot of good success in Desert hot Springs out just north of Palm Springs; looking through trash piles and abandoned lots. I have caught maybe 5 or 6 scorps in that town this year during the day just casually looking. Just take the i10 straight east... pretty much anywhere in the desert you can find em, i've just found more alot more in that area opposed to any other in the desert this year, so far.

I find them all around my area.Just go to a field or the out skirts of town at night and start looking around with your black light.Honestly, they are everywhere around SoCal.You just have to look hard enough. When I was first into scorpions,I always asked people speciffic areas, and no one would tell me.They would just point me in the right direction.I never understood why,but now I do.Finding your very own scorpion hunting spot is MUCH more satisfying than going where some one else already frequents.Try to go out on a night when it was a hot day,or a couple days after it rains. It's also better to go out on a new moon than a full moon.If you can find burrows, you can go during the day and just start digging.I find P.silvestrii,A.pocki,S.donensis,and some wierd Pseudoroctonus sp. within 10 miles of my house, which is in the middle of Oceanside. If you need any more help, feel free to PM me!

better question: what would they do with my luggage full of deli's? :p

I would, I'd hit up you, NomadInExile, PurpleOrange, Kathy, and any others unnamed who want to go. Those are off the top of my head.

That'd be awesome!Oh,and you cannot forget Cacoseraph if he'd be down. He's the king of inverts in my neck of the woods! We could have like "SoCal Fest"!Could be a great time!

And that's a good question on the delis...I've gotten Hogna Sp. outta maryland to here via carry on luggage! That was only one though...and unfortunately they'd probably kill all the inverts...that is,if they could see them!I don't think they show up very well on the x-ray scanners.

The scorpions in this area don't interest me but there's a guy over on the "true spiders" section that might help you. Now mind you --- if you badmouth a Black Widow he may piss napalm and fart mustard gas at you but he does know a lot about the arachnids in SoCal...

Dear "What" --- cuddles ---
