Ok, so i'm starting this thread now to illustrate just how long small, slower metabolism T's can barricade themselves underground for. On Sept 19 I bought (among other things) an Aphonopelma witchitanum small juvenile. It was about 1-3/4" in legspan but already showing color. It lived it its little deli cup from the show for a week until I rehoused it in a more appropriate container. That was on Sept 27. That very evening the little T dug down underneath a small piece of wood and shut the door with a clod of dirt and silk. That door has been closed ever since. I assume it is molting down there but who knows, it could just be taking a nap or getting in some "me time".

So at the time of this posting the little T has already been 'dug in' for almost seven weeks. How long do you, dear reader, expect this to go on? Please post your guesses as to when it will emerge along with any comments. Whenever it actually comes out i'll resurrect this thread and we'll see who was closest.

The prize for being closest will be purely virtual and have no monetary value whatsoever.

My guess is it won't come up for 2.5 weeks. :}

I'm in a similar situation though, my C. shioedtei sealed up her hide a month ago, presumably molting.

are you *certain* it's not coming up in the middle of the night?
Some ppl say, "oh you never see Cobalt Blue's outside their burrow", well that's true if you look at their enclosures during the day...when they are hiding :p.

Try checking on your T at 2:00 am, you might just get a surprise ;)

We have an A. hentzi that barricaded itself in on 9-9, we can see that it has molted, but no sign of it above the substrate.

We also have an A. sp.Guatemala that has been barricaded in since 9-23. i hope it comes up pretty and molted soon, but am not holding my breath!

My guess for yours is another month and a half at least!:D

I'll say 3 weeks 4 days. Just because.

I have on obt juvenile who has made a subterranean lair. She hasn't come out for months, I can see what she's doing thanks to the glass bottom. It's not a moult. It must be me time.

my flagstaff orange sling closed up it's burrow for at least 4 months and just sat there(i know this because it's against the side of the enclosure) i actually had to open it so the beast would eat! not that it was skinny or anything, i just want it to be bigger! i've had it for a year and it has grown less than 1/4 inch in that time. 2 molts:rolleyes:

Christmas day. Perfect present for ya.

Heheh, that would be cool. I think it'll be down there until early spring though.

I assume all these guesses are X amount of weeks from the creation of this thread, not total time underground. Almost 7 weeks already...

I'm pretty sure although it's always possible. There's a difference you can see between when a cobalt or OBT closes up the entrance with web and when a young Aphono or Brachy or whatever build a veritable mountain on top of the burrow. I'm fairly certain it is down there molting, dug in for the long haul.

One dollar Bob! But seriously. If that were my T I'd dig it up and trade it or throw a brick at it for being lame.

I think it will come out in the year 2012 And if it does that's a sign the world will end. And if it comes out sooner than 2012 the world isnt going to end any time soon. :liar:

Well guys, I was surprised to find that she'd opened the door this weekend. I haven't yet seen her (did she molt? I dunno) but there is a burrow entrance now. I guess that means she came out, right?

My P. Platyomma dug himself in for a good 6 weeks, but kept eating. When he finally came out he hadn't molted, he was digging an elaborate tunnel system. Wish I could see in there past the second turn

Our two are still in seclusion. The A. hentzi we can tell has molted, because we are able to see its legs. No change up above though!
