Removing the moult isn't necessary althoughi wouldn't worry about braking the web these little spoods are romers and will usually just make a new web every night to rest in where ever they are, although a moulting web is different they will stay there till hardened but once they come out for food you can collect it if you wish. I usually leave them till my little ones make a new home.
I have raised several of these beautiful spoods my house has alot if them so they are easy to catch, remove the dish these spiders will drowned themselves in water you were right to just do a few droplets instead, I usually offer this once a week twice just after moulting but literally a few drops I have seen juvinile's of these get stuck in water droplets to big, they aren't the smartest of spoods and they like it dry dry dry but do enjoya droplet every now n then. Usually I would say have a dish for any spood but these are like velvet spoods they hate moisture plus they are super clumsy and will get stuck in it.

Mine usually come out when they are ready to eat you will notice little one in a new place in the viv, sometimes this takes a few days sometimes closer to a week depending on the size of the spood. Just watch little one and they will tell you when they are ready , I would guess at 4/5 days because of the size of yours.

I wish you both luck on your journey and anymore questions just tag it on here 😊.

Ps welcome to ab πŸ˜‰πŸ˜Š

You do have the option of removing the molt, just don't destroy the spiders webbing.
Okay Thanks I actually today did that today as she was out of the web burrow and the molt was mostly out of it

Thank Youuuu Very Much ^ ^
I will remove the water this then and dew her enclousure once a week also she came out today and Iam so happy for that (which coresponds with the 4-5 days you said)

Also it's a honor for me to talk with somebody else who keeps Scotophaeus blackwalli so can I ask how often do you feed them ? (I feed her ussualy once a week and sometimes twice a week is that enough ?)

Thank You Iam glad to be here and talk with similar minded people who love spiders (and other arthropods) aswell :))

It's np at all I never meet others that keep this sp so glad to help 😊

I watch for abdomen size rather then stick to a schedule, if the abdomen looks thin ie smaller then the carapace I feed if they are still fat I leave them for a bit but I do daily checks so it's easy to keep track of abdomen size. I aim for the abdomen to be slightly wider then the carapace.
The length between feeds will be determined by meal size bigger meals = chunky so its longer between meals.
If you watch your spiders alot you will start to notice a difference in behaviour too, from a just wandering around to purposeful hunting 😊.

I find these little guys facinating they are excellent to keep , I am so glad someone else loves them as much as I do πŸ₯°.
There wasn't much on keeping them as pets when I started keeping them and what I have learnt has been through trial and error but I am glad to share it and hopefully it will help a fellow blackwalli enthusiast 😊.

Your in good company we all love inverts here of any shape or size πŸ™‚.

Oh Okay so similar to Steatodas :D (looking for abdomen size)

Mine is ussualy not very active during the day but that's to be expected as they are nocturnal I just every day look for her and check if she looks Okay before she made the web for molting I sometimes saw her wondering outside but she was mostly hidden during the day

I actually never saw her hunt (I just dropped fly larva and the other day her abdomen was fatter)

Also thanks for the interesting informations about their behaviour, I love them too they are just so fascinating I would say maybe my 3rd favorite spiders right behind Segestrias and Steatodas and when you get to know their behaviour it's easy to know when they are molting (so then they need more moisture) and also their looks it's just so cute I can see why they call it a "mouse spider"

Also can I ask does her abdomen look good sized on the photo or should I feed her ?
Also did you ever tried to breed them in captivity or not ?

Hope this thread helps other future keepers of this species too as I saw on internet next to 0 informations on them I feel like they are so underapreciated

Glad to hear that ^^ as someone who held love for arthropods since early childhood and now is on start of his keeping journey Iam glad to contact fellow hobbyists and get help from them or help them and talk about our little boneless multi-legged friends :3

Yes I actually use this method for all my spoods and t's 😊 they aren't built like us to burn through resources they are made for storage so you can't really put a timer on feeding them, they will tell you when they are hungry πŸ˜‰ . I usually see mine out around midnight a soft light torch is great for watching them 😊.

I would offer something but just because she's not long moulted, she will need the extra atm to help her fill bk up, if she's full already she will ignore it n no harm done😊.
I haven't bred them no. I get loads in my home so I never had too .
They are extremely underappreciated and imo beautiful looking spiders those chunky legs with that shiny coat 😍, beautiful.

I keep Steatoda and have kept segestrias too πŸ˜† I actually started my journey with native spiders Eratigena, so they hold a special place for me and I keep a few sp in my collection πŸ™‚ .

I read they were called mouse spiders because of their hair that brown/gray like common mice. I don't know how true that is though.

We all like to do that here, sharing is caring, you'll fit right in πŸ˜‰πŸ˜Š

Oh Thank You ^ ^

Okay I will offer her fly larva even tho she's kinda chunky already :D

Is it true that they will scavange on dead food or do they eat live food only ?

Oh Okay I found this one actually on a kitchen wall and just got to love her (I called her Lily :D) they are such a beautiful spiders

Hopefully I can someday find her a mate as they are not that common here (tho I read they can live for 8 years so I have plenty of tΓme for that :D)

Cool I keep Steatodas too (tho have some problems with them :/ as I mentioned in my newest thread) they are fascinating and easy to observe and I plan to get Segestrias someday :D (tho that atleast after few months)

True I read the same thing which I can understand they really look similar if you squeze your eyes πŸ˜„

Thanks ^ ^

And Iam super happy for how kind and helpful everyone is here ^ ^ (unlike some other places like Reddit)

I didn't mean she was thin just if she has not long moulted despite abdomen size I would still offer it just incase as it takes alot out of them 😊 she's a perfect specimen don't worry πŸ˜‰

Steatoda are quite easy once you get care right I hadn't seen your other thread but will go look after this message 😊
My Segestrias were an accident I bought corkbark from amazon and it came infested with them mum n baby's I think, I managed to keep them about a year but they slowly started dying off I am still to this day unsure why. I haven't been lucky enough to get more since.

I hope you do find her one they are beautiful spiders I have everything crossed he turns up 🀞🀞🀞☘☘☘.

I only come here for spood stuff I don't trust other platforms and the ppl on them are so rude. Never had that here and their search bar is my favourite place for info 😊

Thank You Very Much ^ ^
Glad to hear she's a prefect specimen πŸ˜„ Okay I will offer her something but should the food be alive or should I give her pre-killed food (as I read they are also scavangers but Iam not sure if it's true) ?

Thank Youuuu Very Much ^^
You are such a kind person thank you very much for helping me with the care
Cool a lucky accident :D but sorry to hear that they started dying :(
Hope you will get another ones my fingers are crossed to you they are such a fascinating spiders ;)) 🀞

I would offer live but maybe crush the head so it just wiggles a bit if she wants it she will take it if not remove it tomorrow .

I am pretty sure they were bavarica. I was so upset once they started dying I never changed their care so I am not sure what happened πŸ˜•.

Yes spood means spider 😊.

Oh Okay Thanks ^ ^
I actually offered a little worm yesterday and I don't see it there so Iam not sure if it's eaten or not (Iam not that sure even if her abdomen grown as it was kinda badly visible when she was in the web) sorry for not mentioning that before :/

Oh Cool I heard they are different from other Segestrias in that that they make the tube from silk which is very interesting and they are kinda rare (they don't occur here from what I know but in neighbouring Czechia they are endangered) well sorry to hear about your loss :(
Hope you will get and manage to raise new ones ;)

Oh cool such a cute nickname :D

If its gone she has probably eaten it I wouldn't bother offering more then 😊

Yes I couldn't believe it when the bark turned up with so many . Hopefully next time I am lucky enough to get some I will be able to keep them going.

I thought so too so it found its way into my vocabulary πŸ˜†

Oh Okay Thanks ^ ^

I can imagine the feeling NGL and I hope that it wasn't the last time :)) 🀞 (Segestrias are so underapreciated and understudied too tho that holds true for most spoods which aren't medicaly singnificant or highly synanthropic)

Well it surely found way into my vocabulary too now xD

Trueee but we hobbyists can contribute a lot as we can observe their life cycles, etology etc etc. which is good

You are right Iam gonna use it probably often too xD
