My supplier was out of food so I had to go to a different local supplier. Fed my slings and juvie small meal worms. They eat them no problem. Come back a few hours later. My i. Mira sling. Dead. My g pulchara, my most active tarantula and best eater. Death curl possibly dead, twitched once that was it. My a geniculata juvie, death curl but is starting to move. My t. Stirmi sling okay but is in a stress pose and the c darlingi sling is nowhere to be seen.

I’m mad. I’m worried. What happened with their food. My tarantulas were fine until i gave them those meal worms.

Posted a pic of my g pulchara. I don’t know if it’s too late.

Definitely contact the seller and inquire as to what they were fed. Make sure he knows they are possibly toxic

I'm so sorry. That is so.....messed up.
I can't even properly express myself because I'll start swearing.

Where did you buy the feeders from? Hopefully you didn't buy mealworms that is sold for fishing bait. Ex. Walmart, bait stores obviously and convient stores.

I bought them from a local breeder. I also got super worms from them as well, my bigger ts did fine with them. Normally I go to the pet store but they’ve been out for god knows how long and the last time I asked they said “Don’t even ask me when they are coming back cause I don’t know.”

they must have been exposed to something, perhaps in their feed. Seller needs to be notified or he could kill a lot of critters. I assume you crushed the heads before feeding to your slings

What does he breed his insects for? Sorry not trying to come off ignorant I'm just trying to narrow it down as I'm more than curious myself.

Are they specifically breeding their insects for feeders for exotic pets?

More than likely it's what they have fed their feeders or where they are kept was contaminated with something else.

I've always worried about contaminated feeders. I don't have enough tarantulas to have my own colonies, it would be a nightmare. Or I could just buy a Pixie Frog as they are literal garbage disposals to keep my colony at a set amount.

Either they've been exposed by something external or something to do with the feeders which is the most likely reason. I would question to ask what they've fed their mealworms prior to you buying them and ask if the feeders were exposed by anything prior to getting them. I hope you get answers.

Yep, it had for bred for reptiles and other exotic pets which is why I’m confused what happened. I can no longer find the listing anymore so I’m wondering if im not the only one having this problem.

Was it an AB member? Where did you find the listing through?

Either way....I am so sorry for what you and your tarantulas are going through and the loss of the ones which didn't make it and the money you lost.

I know I would be devastated if something like that happened or happens to me. I am really heart broke for you. I give my deepest sympathies.

Sorry, for your loss. I can't imagine what you're going through.

There are a few reputable dealers of insects feeders on line. Mealworms can last quite a while in the fridge. Sometimes I will place an order on a particularly well know site, and I've been nothing but satisfied with my transactions.

Express shipping is a little pricey, but I will usually get a bunch of dubia ( which also can last a long time) and a bunch of mealworms. A hundred mealworms is only a few bucks.

It's good knowing some of these companies have the reputation, have been doing it for a while, and producing quality feeders at a reasonable price.
