Isn't infrared invisible to humans as well? I'm guessing you can't spot a pede at night with infrared? Unless you want it just for photography purposes. Can't you just paint a regular bulb or would that emit the wrong kind of light?

What would you paint it with that wouldn't burn/melt and be thin enough to let light pass through?

Room temperature works good too...

I have my two lights for around 15 critters. The lights are spread out. Heating one tank with a light like that is going to make it extremely hot.

I also use a dimmer, those work well.

no, its just so weak for us that the other light crowds it out. ive made some goggles that block out most of the light spectrum except for infrared. only thing is, aside from the sun, you would have to have a very bright light to illuminate anything using these filters, nothing portable i think and you would need a very dark if not pitch black night to use it.

but if anyones interested in experimenting with that heres the link i found. theyre fun regardless.

I tested red light with roaches a while ago and it worked great. They didn't seem to notice it at all. Might be worth a try with pedes.

I'm actually starting a dubia colony with an infrared light heat source.

Going good so far!

You made some IFR goggles? I've been looking into the IFR thing for a month or two. There are portables, but most mid-line hand-helds cost a few $1000 right now, top end are +$5000 and the size of a reg digi cam. I don't know why they are so high $.

those are going to be much better than these. these goggles really only work in bright sunlight due to how little IR the human eye can detect. what may work is a floodlight that doesnt leak light anywhere out of the unit, with the filters over the light.

Red lights work perfectly. I actually use red lights on all of my S. subspinipes enclosures and have never had any issues with them. Actually get to see the pedes out and about at times as well.
