Stormie, Sorry to hear the bad news.. It can be difficult when you lose your T's I might have a replacement if your interested.. i'm also in Phoenix..
Awww, how nice :)

First edition is copyright 1998, right?
I guess the 1998 edition was such a huge revision that the original isn't even mentioned on the copyright page, not to mention that this is probably the one 99% of the people here used when they got into the hobby. However, there was an even earlier version of the TKG published in 1984...this is the one that only uses common names.

The 1998 edition is the one that lists Mexican blonde tarantula as the standard common name for A. chalcodes on page 264. If we're all aspiring standardization nazis, we might as well all start italicizing our scientific names :)

I've been keeping up with all of the posts on this thread and I truly find it amazing that it has turned into nothing more than a debate. I concede that there are many more of you out there that are way more knowledgeable about T's than I am. That's what I was counting on. However, the debate that started regarding the name of this particular T was completely ridiculous. I'm a 38 year old mother and my son wanted a tarantula. I made sure that I studied, carefully, the kind of enclosure she needed, the food she needed. I made sure she was hydrated at all times. I had my son check out books at the library on tarantulas, so I would know what kind of T she was. I then followed up with internet research. I watched her carefully, and talked to her when I was in the room whether I sounded like an idiot or not. I did everything that I thought I needed to do to take care of her properly. When I said that I was saddened when she died, I meant it. Who gets attached to a spider? Me, I guess. No matter what I called her, she died. I can say one good thing about this debate--I learned the scientific name for my spider. I also learned that there are some wonderful people out there that truly can see past the BS and show true kindness. Unfortunately, I also learned that while there are some people that have a tremendous amount of knowledge regarding T's, they need to brush up on their people skills. Well guys, it's been fun. Health and happiness to all your T's. Special thanks to AquaArachnid to the offer of a possible replacement. I would like that. Also, thank you to Chris Skeleton. Your post led me to, what I believe, the root cause of the problem. I will continue to learn what I can regarding future T's and I look forward to having more. Thanks guys.

I hope you and your son can get another T. It's a hobby my family enjoys together too. Good luck to you!
