What is the harm in releasing Regal Jumpers in Texas where they aren't native?

Please hear me out and be kind, I'm a newbie and I wasn't aware my jumper girl was not a "virgin" šŸ˜µā€šŸ’« So I've got all these babies now and I plan on selling as many as I can but there's no way I'm going to be able to raise them ALL. What is the harm in just releasing them here in Texas?

Because I know there's many species of jumpers here just not regals...I guess they might upset the balance somehow since they aren't native...another breeder also told me it was illegal and that they wouldn't survive here in Texas although it's not a ton different from Florida where they are native...Thanks for your help

Yeah, all those reasons. This is another great argument for only getting slings with true spiders.

No way 100 will make it to adulthood anyhow, I say give it a shot, you might learn something.

I wouldn't release any because they're not likely to survive a different environment, and if they can, they could become invasive or hybridize with local species.

If you can't raise them or sell them, perhaps give them away?

Listen up, releasing non-native species is WRONG. Donā€™t believe me? Google it up.

Something called ā€œunintended consequencesā€ is something no one can predict! Do not play Russian roulette with the environment becaise once you screw it up, you screw it up for the entire planet!

Just freeze the jumpers you canā€™t give away.

You release them honestly you are being massively selfish, and shouldnt own exotics to begin with.

Do the RIGHT thing god damn it.

Itā€™s a matter of principle too, speeding is against the law be it 1 mph over or 100 mph over.

Are you a person of principles or just someone that does things that works for you, and the hell with everyone else?!

You have been told it's illegal and they won't survive - so why the question ?

There's enough other species being released ( Dumped ) due to cost of living/ energy prices etc. Don't add to the problem.

It's never a good idea to introduce a foreign species to an area. Just look at the problems Florida has had with snails, snakes, New Yorkers and hogs; all of them now have established populations and destroy ecosystems or out compete native fauna for resources.
Releasing just one small feral thing can be like putting just one small tiny hole in a boat.

The legal and proper way to deal with these if you can't take care of them is the freezer for several days.

You could put an ad in the Classified here to try to sell them off in bulk. Just make sure you read the tutorial for the rules.

The best case scenario if you release them is that they all die in the wild and do not establish. Non-native species should never be released into the wild by non-professionals, and even with planned releases involving many years of planning and scientists, things can go very wrong.

The best thing you can do is euthanize or sell them. As mentioned before, freezing is the easiest way to humanely do this. Additionally, some people like to euthanize by feeding them to another pet that eats arthropods, since this feels more "natural," so this is another option.

How do we feel about letting them cannibalize each other until only a manageable number remain?

Thank you leading the attack on my honest question. It's people like YOU "old timer" who make me NOT want to post here at all for fear of retaliation and therefore doing things blindly because I'm not allowed to ask questions that others deem stupid/ignorant and offensive. Of course I want to do the right thing, otherwise I wouldn't be freaking ASKING!! Weren't you the same one who in another thread told me "don't believe everything you read on the Internet"? Yet you say to "Google it." Right. Great advice.

Here is a pro tip. If you want to get rid of a bunch of spiderlings super fast, offer them up for free here on the classifieds. šŸ˜‰

I was going to tell you to euthanize them as well, but my intuition told me that you wouldn't receive that very well, hence my suggestion to give them all away.

I personally don't think anybody's reaction should dictate how you behave and structure your choices. For example: I know there are going to be some disagreeable people with unmanageable behavior in society, namely Walmart for this example. But I want the cheapest price on Mobil oil for my car, so I cannot beat Walmart's prices. Should I go to AutoZone and pay 20% more just because I'm fearful of running into someone unfavorable at Walmart?

To me, "fear of retaliation" is a silly concept to be holding against strangers online. What can viper even do to you through his screen and keyboard? Hurt your feelings? Damage your reputation? Lead the charge to exile you from a community because you asked a question he didn't like?

I understand that emotional reactions will vary from individual and from circumstance, but my point is that you shouldn't be fearful of utilizing such a resource (AB forums) simply because you don't like what or how somebody said something to you.

Hope this doesn't affect your daily routine. Have a good one and good luck with your slings.

There is such a thing as bullying online ("what can people even do to you through a screen"). It's not some mysterious, unproven, bogus "thing." I didn't say it would let it "dictate my actions" but I said it makes me wary. I know everyone's definition of "bullying " is going to be different. Not going to continue to argue about it though. Thanks though for wishing me luck.

Don't let the Greta Thunberg wannabes get you down. If anyone had bothered to do the homework, they would have realized that Regal Jumpers have already been spotted in Texas. It's part of their existing range.

No attack at all, nor retaliation for whatā€¦šŸ¤£šŸ™„ Listen, if youā€™re not prepared to hear all types of answers then donā€™t post. Thatā€™s on you, not me. Your choice not mine.

Who said youā€™re not allowed to post????
Thereā€™s nothing wrong with being ignorant! Everyone is ignorant on something/s!
However stupidity is a different story šŸ¤£

I did say that at some point- I canā€™t say why specifically.
However always consider your source- Ive said that too!

If your news is from dripdok, or junkbook youā€™re in trouble

If your resource is from a scientific article or a respected science news outlet youā€™re fine.

Keep asking questions!!

If someone had done their homework, they would know that the range of the Regal jumper is Southern US and the West Indies as they require high temperatures and being tropical require High Humidity.

If any have been spotted elsewhere, they have probably been Dumped / released also.

So they can't survive elsewhere. So what's the problem?
