What food do mantids like most?

I feed almost exclusively fruit flies until they are big enough to take other items. I buy green bottle fly casters, couple hundred at a time and keep them refrigerated. Once my live ones start dwindling in numbers I just launch in some new casters and give them a few days warmth to hatch out.

I occasionally give them an appropriate sized hopper and VERY rarely give them a cricket if I've nothing else to hand.
