What does a 3" A. seemanni look like?

the photos are labeled "borealis" what are they doing in a seemanni thread?
That's what they were named when I uploaded them. There was a thread on here in which Robc and Travis K posted pictures of their A. seemanni. Someone on another board said that orange spinnerettes do not always equal A. seemanni, that it could be Acanthoscurria borealis, so Rob posted pictures of his T for ID. Then Travis and I did the same.

I think the final verdict was that all our Ts are A. seemanni and that the main defining physical difference, since the two species look so much alike, is that a MM A. borealis has one mating hook instead of two... or something like that. I don't completely remember. Check out Robc's threads on "Balboa" for reference.

i was the one who told Rob he does not have a seemanni. in a species color can vary.... but there is another diffrence in the 2 spiders. look at the meta tarsus of your specimen. it has a diagonal "flash" mark. then take a look at the meta tarsus of the "real" seemanni. there is onlu a short straight stripe at the base of the meta tarsus.

the "real" A. seemanni can be found all the way up to Honduras (i know this because i have found them in the wild there.) not far from there the duller species is found. this dull species is being exported as A. seemanni. besides these 2 species there are at least 2 more species from the same area that also have the pale spinnerets.

hope this helps

Man I am glad that T is no longer in my care so I don't have to go all crazy on finding out what species it is. LOL, too many ocular comparisons and the like for me with the Haplopelma vonworthi (sp"Vietnam"). I almost forgot all about the difference between these, ugh my head is starting to ache.

Aww man. I guess the color of the spinerets isn't going to help me determine if it is a seemanni :( I hate to go back up there and buy it if it is not a seemanni. I would like to know what I'm caring for. So I am lost again :wall:

metallica - so you only want the spider for the name?
Would I like a seemanni: yes as I have been asking questions here and been looking up care sheets.

Do I want to get a tarantula that I don't know anything about then the answer would be no. Personally I would like to know what I am caring for. I do not want to jump into something I wish I had not and I would like to know how to properly care for the T.
