Hey guys. Pretty new to the forum, I don't tend to post much. I had a situation I thought someone might help shed some light on. I've got a A.Anax, I beleive to be female but I'll let you know when it molts, that I ca ught while on "safari" in south Texas. It has seemed to be a happy T for the most part. Eating very well, yada yada yada. Anyway, it has always been one to be out alot. Chilin on the rock. chilin on the stump, chilin in general. A couple of weeks ago it began to dig out more of the burrow that I made fot it and then shut itself up tight, sealed for freshness! I use deli cups w/ holes cut out in the side and then I bury them so the have a nice hole to retreat in. I can also clear away the soil around it and see whats going on without disturbing it. It is just sitting there-you guessed it-chilin. Ya figure it just natural and nothin to worry about.

Sounds normal to me. Burrowing is by no means unusual for a T. Would you mind telling the story of how you found it? Im curious. ;P

Sure. I go to Texas a couple times a year. My brother in law and I go out to catch gators, yes there are gators in south Texas, anyway on the way back i saw this one walking across the road. It was right after the big rain a few months ago and right before a good flood coming. Which led me to beleive it was a male-looking for love. My friend looked at it and said he thought it to be a female. It was actually me first T. It got me sprung. I have been around the Pet industry for a long time in form or another. Crocodilians are really my gig, and I never had much desire to jack w/ T's. My buddy Gene who post here alot kinda got me hooked too. He is mad with the illness and has a butt-load of them. I dig the little T's though. I think I'll run with this for a while. It's weird. My wife grew up in Texas and said she only saw them before a flood. She said somtimes the roads would look hairy with them. My mom in law has had the same T in her yard for years. I'm sure its a female. She "predicts" the weather for moms. I have never seen one in the wild, but on this trip I caght this one and saw a cat with another. I also found a Berlanders Tort.a.k.a Texas Tortoise, a very rare find. I always hit the jack pot when I'm not looking. I won't even go into the size of the gators we were pulling out of the water. All and all a good trip!

I'd sat 3" or so. It hasn't eaten since it has sealed itself up in the burrow. But thats only been a week and a half or so.

Play with them. It's usally just the fun of getting them up on land. You'd be surprised how strong they are. I love my critters.

Is there anyway she could be pregnant?
We'll every thing else is around here! She told me she was 18!!!lol
There might be. When I caught her that would have been the time in which she would be "looking for love", me friend even made that comment when I brought her home. I hope shes a she. I'm hoping to find another this summer or fall when I go back. I'll just leave her alone I recon and it'll work out. Like I said I have been sneaking a peak in there to see whats happening. I was just wondering how long is too long?

My spider senses are going crazy! I detect... I detect... a molt!!! It could be a molt or just wanting to hide for a while. My P. scrofa often does this, except he doesn't bury himself, he just closes off his hide for a while.

It's not but a few hours. You shouln't be far from your own gators. We go about 40 miles south of San Anton. It amazes me that out in the middle of nowhere you can come across a pond with gators in it. I thought that my wife was B.Sn' me when I went down there for the first time. I caught 2 babies and saw a male probally 10 or 11' long, plus a bunch of others. I have alot of fun. I wouldn't mind moving there someday. Dallas looks pretty kickass though. I'd like to check out their zoo. It's always either late of a holiday when I go thru.

I am having the same issue with my A. anax. But mine sealed herself off better than 2 months ago. Its burrow runs toward the back of the tank and I can see in from the back. She just sits there. I did notice something kind of strange though, one morning last week i went down to check on her and she had removed half of the substrate that she used to seal herself in with. She left an opening about half the size of the hole so I could peak in from the front. Next morning she had the burrow sealed up with twice as much substrate as before. Haven't seen her since. She does have a nice big butt on her though. She just doesn't want to come out or eat. Got mine from southern Texas as well.

I got sick of looking at an empty tank and ordered 3 L. parahybana slings 2 weeks ago. Hopefully these guys won't hide all winter. I like to see my T's!

See, I was wondering if it had something to do w/ the time of year. I know that it's gotton cold here(I live in N. Mississippi) and I thought that might have triggered something. Het rump is still fat. It's weird when I caught it, it's butt was like smaller than its body. Now its normal, I think when I found it, it was looking for food or love, hell maybe both.

thats awesome. The fort worth zoo is better in my opinion, but haven't been to a zoo in a while, especially after that gorrilla escaped from the dallas zoo.
