What do you feed your millipedes?

I've been getting back into the hobby of keeping isopods and millipedes, after about a 2 year break.

Wanted to refresh my memory and maybe learn something new if possible.

What do you feed your millipedes?
What seems to be the most popular among your millipedes?
I know mushrooms are a big favorite.
Fish flakes.
Seem to really enjoy golden trumpet tree wood and leaves.

It varies some by species, but decaying hardwood and leaves should be the staple of most millipedes’ diets. Kibbles and various produce are good supplements. Mine seem to appreciate variety in produce but frequently enjoy apple, cucumber, sweet potato and occasionally corn and avocado. Mine show little to know interest in green leaves or mushrooms.

Do you have particular species in mind? I am curious where you get golden trumpet tree wood and leaves and what millipedes enjoy — I must confess that I had never heard of the tree before!

ive found my millipedes really like eating rabbit poop!
Now that’s something I’ve never heard of feeding to a millipede! o_O I assume the, er, droppings are from a pet rabbit so know they are safe from pesticides at least? I’d think you’d be at risk yourself gathering that from the wild... :doctor:

Repashy 'morning wood' is loved by all millipedes i keep, also hardwoods and leaf litter, fruits, vegetables, and a protein and calcium source usually fish food and plain calcium in a small dish.

I mostly leave mine with the standard leaf litter and and decaying wood, but also throw some cucumber in there. I also randomly bought some dried mini shrimp (the kind you buy for turtles) and tried those, they absolutely can’t get enough of it xD and I’d say this is optional, but you might want to put in a piece of cuttlebone or calcium powder to eat for their exoskeletons, they’ll enjoy that too!

yeah, i recently bought some krill for mine, but i accidentally bought ones that are way too big. my female ate more than i expected when i gave her some though, so i think its fine, especially now that shes in with my male. i expect it will be great on the exoskeleton with the keratin and carotenoids

(also ive been making my own calcium powder by baking + grinding eggshells!)

My millipedes love sweet potato, zucchini, fish flakes and a mix of dried Daphnia, Tubifex, bloodworms and krill. I also give them carrots, mushrooms, banana, apple, orange, beetle jelly... Sometimes they eat them, sometimes they don't.

That’s a great idea with the eggshells, I should try doing that sometime!

I rotate between the occasional cucumber, romaine lettuce, carrots, tropical fish flakes, Nutro crunchy dog treats, beetle jelly, algae disks, and berry smoothie TUMS. All mine seem to love protein, but I hear too much protein in their diet can be bad.
I also offer avocado skins, watermelon rind, sweet potato, and banana if I ever have them around. The millis really like these (not so much the banana).
They have cuttlefish bones in their enclosures but they don't seem to touch them.
