What do the numbers mean?

I keep seeing things like 0.1.0, 0.0.1, ect. before the name of the spider. What do these numbers mean? And does anybody know how I could tell how old my T's are? Also, whats' L1, L7, ect. and 1instar, 2instar ect. mean? Sorry, but I am knew to the hobby and have no clue what all this means. But I see it enough on these boards to give me the impression it is something important to know.

1.0.0 would mean 1 female, no males
0.1.0 would mean 0 female, 1 male
0.0.1 means, 1 unsexed

I believe L1 refers to instar. "Instar" refers to the number of molts a given T has had.

Okay cool, thanks for the reply. That should be easy enough to remember. All 5 of mine are 0.0.1 because they are slings. Or would I write it 0.0.5 seeing I am talking about five tarantulas?

No, jebbewocky has it backwards.

1.0.0 = male
0.1.0 = female
0.0.1 = unknown

Almost...

0.0.5 means 5 unsexed spiders of the same species.

2.1.3 Pterinochilus chordatus 6 total = 2 male, 1 female 3 unk
0.2.2 Pterinochilus lugardi
0.3.8 Pterinochilus murinus
0.0.1 Pterinochilus species only one of these
0.2.6 Stromatopelma calceatum

Another number you MAY see.
The legs are numbers 1-4 in Roman Numerals so Leg II refers to the second leg from the front. The left or right side would be specified as well but I'm not certain(can't recall) of any convention for that at the moment.

And yes Teal, I have five different species. I have them listed on my profile. I got them on the 16th and they are my first ever T's. In fact, I got them to break my fear of spiders. They are doing a great of doing it too. I have held all five and have held my three (other two are my kids, but in my care until they get some size to them) at least once a day so far. The Versicolor is my favorite.

The first number is the amount of males - 1.0.0 = 1 male
The second number is females - 1.2.0 - 1 male and 2 females
The third number is juvenile/unknown sex - 1.2.1 - 1 male, 2 female, 1 unknown

I'm pretty new to this too, but the instar thing refers to the molts when they are babies. They start out as eggs, then eggs with legs, then molt into 1st instar, then 2nd.
