everyone else: are you joking, mad, or under 10?
I'd say 3 x NO... but the second option sounds very familiar ;P

I'm serious and I'm 21. I don't see what makes the idea confusing, weird, or childish...not anymoreso than having pet inverts to begin with anyway.

I know the larger darkling beetles can live for years as adults. Are there any tinier beetles that can?

Tribolium specimens can live more than 2 years.

This thread got me interested in keeping a pocket pet so I started keeping my eyes open for something interesting. Finally found a male Loxosceles reclusa last night. Don't know if he'll remain a pocket pet or if he'll become an office pet so everyone can enjoy him. :D

One of my earliest memories is having a zebra spider(salticus scenicus) in my drawer at school when I was about 6 or 7. Of course it escaped by the next day.
Jumping spiders are absolutely my favourite animal. Theres one who lives on my bathroom window, but they travel so far, so quick, I would never carry one around in a small box. I'd love to have some in a tank on my desk, (especially some of the brightly coloured ones you lot in north america have, we only get zebras here) but they are so small.
I always get a bit twitchy when I see them on tables in pub beer gardens or cafes, cos I know if someone nearby kills it I'm gonna go mad and probably start a fight with 'em! I find myself keeping an eye on the little jumpers, or try and casually move them without people thinking i'm a lunatic.
