IME,coco fiber doesn’t mold unless there is a excess amount of moisture,or a lack of air flow.otherwise know as ventilation.Or a feeder left undiscovered or not removed .
Or maybe I have been lucky?.Regardless, the mixture for me is roughly 20/80 mixture, give or take.IMO,one
of the biggest hurdles in T keeping,is being able to judge moisture levels.
If it doesn’t mold, keep doing what your doing. If it does, check for organic leftovers(feeders/old molts, and spood poop, bolus. And back off in the watering.
And again,it depends on the particular T I’m housing.

I tried topsoil, and quickly switched to coconut fiber because Coco fiber DIDN'T seem to mold like topsoil. Also smelled a lot better. Maybe circumstantial? But I was getting yellow mold all over the topsoil. Coco + spring tails = never get any mold

Agree. I have had success breeding and raising ts to adult hood with coco fiber. They’re okay substrate once established in the enclosure with spring tails and good vent.. . But sometimes When ts webbed up the entire enclosure or container they’ll block most of the ventilation and that’s where mold begin to sprout IME,,, once in a while I see mushroom too lol.. With life change,, sometimes it’s hard to monitor ts if you have a lot of them I rarely feed them and check them than I used to. Anyways pretty excited to use different substrate...so far. Something I’ve never done for a while. Lol

Was at Home depot about an hour ago here in Denver Colorado.Sure enough, they still had the top soil mentioned.price is for 40lbs bags.
This is just for info, not doing any comparison to coco fiber.
