It freaks me out that he seems to have no problem handling species you’re not supposed to handle.

for all that warning of dont handle this t all i seen in that video was a good way to kill that t or have it end up running to the top of your head since where else is it gonna go but up your arm to the top of your head or a long jump to the ground if/when it gets spooked

This thread might get removed or edited as you're not supposed to mention businesses or something like that on the forum rules.

But my take on them is that they are the king of marketing when it comes to Instagram. They're not really what I would call a good solid tarantula information source, but they know how to get people into wanting or owning tarantulas in general. A lot of new hobbyists that come in from Instagram were most likely in awe with them. Even I am very impressed with their videos on the side of bringing in new hobbyists and advertising/marketing. I'd say they are probably one of the best businesses out there in terms of tarantulas right now. They are a power house of a business and know how to market/cater to people. Even I follow them on Instagram as it's interesting to watch and learn how they do things as a business.

Now in terms of information there is obviously a lot more reliable sources out there. So there's that. Businesses need to find a bridge to gap a person to tarantulas and a lot of marketing practices has either evolved or changed over time. They have for sure adapted well into the current market and are doing better than most other businesses. One thing that helps is that are more transparent than most other businesses and there are actual people behind the businesses and are not just some faceless company.

Overall, I wouldn't say they're the best in terms of information. Because there is always going to be someone who has better information or someone who knows more. But they are very great at marketing and for getting new people into the hobby in general. A true standard to the current marketing practices.

I watch Tarantula Collectives channel for info, and Exotics Lair just because he is so entertaining that dude almost never uses a catch cup when he is rehousing stuff.

Because he tried to defend someone who was selling "Hobby Poecilotheria" which was absurd and just a way to sell them across state lines. Their excuse was "it was only a joke" suuuuree.

Then they called out Tom Moran and people on arachnoboards, called them elitist because they condoned their acts.

So... one boo boo and never forgiven ? Im not taking sides, just sounds a bit petty. I thought it was an argument about something important - like overfilling waterbowls

Some of the most successful people in the world have made at least one mistake in life for Christ sakes. Except for Jesus of course.... well apart from that one time he built a three legged table, And yes, ofc they left THAT story out of the bible

Well, I am sure he has repented and learned from his error in judgement. IF NOT, HE SHOULD. AND APOLOGISE

IF the leader of my country can be forgiven for repeated sexism and racism. Maybe there is hope for him also ???

As for his video editing, overall production, entertainment value - its great for the hobby, isn't it ? Boring videos of geeky twats standing explaining stuff is YAWWWWNNNN. I'm thinking of all the boring aquarium and fishkeeping videos Ive watched. There are a few new youtubers who are in line with TC for production.... so so so much more watchable

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying what he did in the past was right. I didn't even know about it until today. I'm saying that as a newish person to the hobby, his videos have been great and embracing .Ofc, I have also gone on every other website i can find and compare info etc. Taking one persons opinion only is always a bad idea.

That's the thing. He never apologized, he even has an hour long podcast trying to make excuses with the person who tried selling "hobby Poecilotheria".

Not to mention his top 10 videos, which one of those has been debunked by an actual entomologist for wrong information

Apples and oranges. The "leader" of your country should not have been forgiven. Being in a position of power they are held to higher standards than the general population. A racist and/or sexist does not deserve any power or authority. Also if they can't forgive the gender or race for w.e. messed up reason they have for not liking said race or gender, then why do they deserve forgiveness. Sounds like your country (mine as well, and likely many other countries) needs to think twice about who is deserving of forgiveness.

I've met him and met some people that work with him. Very nice guy. He's got a 500+ balfouri communal.. huge. But I don't think I'll ever have a communal. He was nice when I met him at a show though.
