What’s the dumbest thing you’ve ever heard about a tarantula online

I once read this. “Tarantulas, in self defense, will often shoot their poisonous hairs directly at your face, if These hairs come in contact with your skin, seek immediate medical help.” Can’t find the web page that had this but man, the only thing I could think of was the poor people that now think tarantulas have “poisonous“ hairs🤣

I mean, the hairs aren't technically poisonous, but you sure wouldn't want to eat them. And they can be surprisingly accurate, and if they get in your eyes they could blind you... I've heard of skin rashes coming back recurrently, like poison ivy. So I've definitely heard way dumber than that lol.

The OBT that likes the booty scratches from earlier today is pretty high on the list.

I don't even know where to start. I've heard so many downright wrong or stupid things that I need to take some time to decide on which one takes the cake.

Worst I heard was that you shouldn't use coco fiber as substrate as Ts will eat it and it will kill them....from an employee of a spider store

I came across an article while I was searching for supplies on Black Friday that listed beginner species by how easy they are to handle and play with.

- A Facebook ad by a breeder who listed an OBT as a 'beginner species'.
- Any post about people bragging how it's okay to handle a Pokie.
- "You definitely need a sponge in that water dish." -Moron, other forum.
- People who post about how their T can recognize them and love them.
- A small breeder's blog where I inquired about a 5" C. marshalli with not a speck of a horn at all. "Why yes, that's a female. $300"
- "Sick! You live with those?! Kill it with fire!" -Facebook boob.

I've seen this very recently on a very big Facebook group. People putting hats on their tarantulas, drives me mad.

Another crusade in history sounds good right now

People who have "emotional support" spiders that they try to pet and cuddle. Also people who say something like "don't do this at home!" While they post photos of themselves handling a P. ornata or other OW. So incredibly stupid. I've seen people do the same with deathstalker scorpions and it makes me want to beat my head against a brick wall.

Oh no, we need new Darwin award nominees every year.
