Just got a pair of these beaut's - Hemideina crassidens

This is the male, his mandibles were huge and he was threatening to use them on me while I was taking these pics!

I bought a male and 2 females of these a couple of weeks ago. They came in individual plastic cricket tubs. I left them on the shelf in my office for a couple of days befoe I managed to get a tank set up, during which time the male chewed his way out of the tub. He was found wandering across the upstairs landing by my kids........

That's awesome!! I've always wanted to see one of these guys up close. I need to plan a trip to New Zealand.

I knew a guy from there who woke up to something gently brushing the side of his face -- there was a weta on his pillow!
