So I recently got my first T, a Davus pentaloris. At first, he was inside a 20x20 enclosure, which I had to change due to the lid being quite removable from the inside. So I got him this 30x20.

At first, he got inside the hole between the coconut hide and the cork, then hopped on the walls for some time. Today, I found him in this new weird hiding spot. Is this normal?

Could it be that the substrate is too wet? (It’s coconut fiber that I left to dry in the sun and baked in the oven—not completely dry, just slightly, slightly damp.)

I must add, he ate the day after I put him in the first enclosure, and now he’s not (I’ve rehoused him 5-6 days ago) 1000143982.jpg 1000143981.jpg

Your tarantula is tarantulaing! Who knows why they do what they do. If that's what makes him feel secure, I wouldn't worry.

You should probably expect more webbing and home-making to come.

Lovely-looking spider 👍

Looks completely normal to me, it's probably just making itself comfortable in it's new enclosure. Congrats on your first T.

It is doing what they do well, making web hides.

it is known that this tarantula can enjoy some moisture in the sub. So going on the walls is probably just because enclosure is big and it was exploring.

but the hide its making is awesome behavior. Its deciding where it wants to be. If sub was to moist, it would. not be doing that. it would probably not set foot to the ground.

i have two D pentaloris. One adopted the hide, the other made one using the fake leaves and straws i put in there. They don’t have much room to climb.

very normal, you can give them the best looking hide in the world and they will choose a different location. I made a hide for a B. Hamorii, it decided to cover it in soil

My A. Semanni used to hide inside the skull decoration in her enclosure. Tarantulas will hide where they want to hide, they’re actually kind of like cats in that sense. If they fit, they sit.
