Checked on the eggeaters this afternoon and saw that the female was curled up in the laybox. Peeked in and saw these!

Probably put them on moist vermiculite within the next day or two and incubate at about 80 degrees. These are my first reptile eggs I've ever had experience with so any advice would be great.

This photo taken not more than 2 weeks prior to laying eggs.

Pair.

I just love the faces of the eggeaters. Too bad my Safeway doesn't sell quail eggs..

HAHA I ebayed button quail eggs for my eggeater, after not hearing back from the "gourmet quail eggs" seller on amazon.com for a week. Then the button quail eggs came, and immediately afterwards the coturnix 'gourmet" eggs came! I now have button quail eggs incubating, so I'll have my own little egg-making machines for the snake down the road.

Also, congrats! You know what.. my female's getting fat, too, and looking a LOT like yours. like, almost 100% like yours. Although I don't have a male, and she hasn't mated (here at least, haha). She's definitely looking great, though! I'm tempted to get another as well, cause I love this snake a lot. She's definitely the same species as what you have, though.

I know of one guy who imports these occasionally, though he said he might be only bringing in XL females in the future since the smaller ones are trickier to feed.(females over 3 ft and thick as a 50 cent piece can feed on chicken eggs) My male has not fed for me yet so I think it is syringe time. LLL has some babies that are from this same importer...and they'd likely have some males.

Btw, really good birds to keep around for these guys would be diamond or ringneck doves. The former if you have smaller snakes. Their eggs are thinner shelled and so more readily taken IME than quail eggs.(seems they always get eaten first if they are given the choice). Also, doves are great companion birds otherwise and make the most adorable cooing noises!

Quail eggs

The best place I've found to have quail eggs nearly all of the time is oriental markets! All the ones here in Virginia have them so check them out, or some pet stores that occasionally get in finches that lay is another good place to call around and ask. Most of them dont have the facilities to incubate them anyway, so they end up getting tossed.

I've actually spoken to pet stores with finches around here, and they refused to sell or give away finch eggs (that were IN the cage at the time even) to customers, and instead pitched them. WHY I have no idea, but that was the stores' policies in this area.

My quail eggs should hatch this week, early or middle. I'll have my own little egg-making machines here which'll be fun. I love quail, though, they're awesome pet birds that will come when called, even

pouchedrat: Yeah people can get weird, even a bit defensive. I think Petsmart and Petco it is against store policy. Little mom n pops are usually better...some stores I've been to feed the eggs to their other animals also. I demand quail pictures!

toe cutter: Yeah oriental markets or a good source for the larger coturnix quail eggs, but these are only suitable for larger snakes.

Sharpfang: No, never did find him. Debating whether or not to keep his female sibling.

Like to see photos of yours. Guessing it is probably a WC juvie from the San Mateo show?

quail eggs

True, the ones here at the asian markets would definately bee too large for a juvie and below, but most of the egg eaters I have seen, at shows or on kingsnake.com, could easily take the quail eggs you can get there.

I dont advise buying anything at petco or petsmart anyway, most I have been to couldn't keep a bearded dragon alive longer than a month!

The video of these guys on Life in Cold Blood is awesome though. African colubrids are way underrated. My favorite reptiles by far have been the Rhamphiophis species.
