Is it me or does that dish take up 3/4ths of the real estate? Can you find something smaller? I like to allow tarantulas a place to spread out on the substrate. That's where they molt. Terrestrials anyway.
That’s pretty close up, that’s where I moved my dish to so she’d have water closet for her premoult cycle, actually my terrarium is technically too large, at 30x12x12”, once she moults I’m rehousing her to a smaller tarantula cribs enclosure. Initially I chose a larger shallower dish but I’m rethinking that as well.

Thanks. Are Poecilotherias messy like S calceatums? Do I need to mount the cap above ground? I'll have to figure out how to hot glue the cap to the inside wall of the enclosure without her making a run for it. I could have planned ahead with all this, but where's the fun in that? :)
Only Avics live at elevated positions....other arboreals go up, but in captivity, they live on the ground, under things or even in a burrow....for this reason, it only really makes sense to elevate a water dish for an Avic.

I check on my S. calceatum on a daily basis. She's always at least half way up a branch that runs to the top of the enclosure. That's more or less where I mounted the water dish. At mid elevation. I haven't had the dish on the ground for at least a year. When I did have the dish on the ground, she would promptly fill it with dirt.

When she's out and about, or she made her permanent home there?

Her place of rest seems to be half way up the branch. She hardly ever uses her hide anymore. She has essentially webbed over the entrance to her hide, so she can't get in anymore. I'd be willing to give a ground level dish another try. Nowadays, she's more into webbing than bulldozing. That midair dish is a bit unsightly anyway.
