on the other hand, if you buy slings you will get twice as many for the same price as the larger size which will increase your chance of getting females, unless you get a guaranteed female which is not likely to be sexed at the 2" size. lings are not that hard to raise up, sure they take some time to start to get their adult colors but the satisfaction of raising a ling to an adult is pretty nice. just my two cents worth.Originally posted by Code Monkey
Much better to spend $40-$60 and get a 2" B. smithi that looks like a smithi and even looks like a small tarantula for your first T, then spend $22 for a 1/4" bald sling which won't even begin to resemble a tarantula, let alone a smithi for more than a year.
I would like to recommend two books if you have not already bought them:
"The Tarantula Keeper's Guide" by Schultz
"Tarantulas and Other Arachnids" by Marshall
total cost for both books should be around 20.00 at your favorite book retailer.
