Hi, I'm a beginner at keeping arachnids, and I want to get a vinegarroon or tailless whip scorpion, which one is easier to care for and a good beginner arachnid? First post on the forum:)

Welcome to the forum!

I would highly suggest a vinegaroon over whip spider for a beginner.

PS. I highly suggest you refer to the tailless whip scorpion as an Amblypygid. There are many, many, many, many different common names that simply cause confusion on the forum.

Why is an Amblypygid harder than a vinegarroon? Also can i house a vinegarroon in a terrarium? if yes what would you recommend the size?

I love amblypygids, but I agree with SamuraiSid that a vinegaroon is a better starter. Amblypygids have fairly specific temp and humidity requirements and it's more difficult to give the enclosure a naturalistic look. You also have to keep the humidity high with good ventilation, which can be a challenge. Vinegaroons are more forgiving when it comes to temp and humidity. A terrarium would work just fine for a vinegaroon. I think a 5 gallon should be fine, maybe even a bit large. 2.5 gallons work well too. Just make sure that they have a deep substrate so that they can burrow.

will the 8x8x8 exo terra terrarium be enough? are there any cheap enclosures for it like a plastic shoebox? thanks for the detailed answers.

The more floor space, the better. You should be able to house them in a plastic shoebox without a problem.

Those enclosures don't allow you to give them a deep enough layer of substrate. A plastic container with air holes drilled in to them would be better.

one or two of my vinegaroons go on wandering sprees for some reason. I think this species would benefit from two or three tiems more space than a tarantula, just because sometimes they do wander.
