Hi, someone sold me this Red Island Birdeater at the Reptile Super Show today. He told me he breeds them himself and only has 2 left. I’m hoping someone else might have purchased one and knows the company name. Thanks!

If it is really is a Phormictopus atrichromatus, what size do they start showing the colours at? Looks like a young LP just now.

Did they have their own table? Did you not notice the name on it, if they did? Curious why you want to know now?
They had their own table with a name. I just like to know in case I want to revisit in the future and forgot it.

I have no idea but the 2 he had were slightly different colors and the same size. Mine is more brown than it seems in the photo and the other one was more of a black color. He said the brownish ones tend to be females but it is not possible to confirm at this stage based on color.

Maybe you can look up the shows website and see if they have a list of the vendors? Maybe it will help to jog your memory?

Helpful tip for next time: Ask for a business card, or take a pic of the vendor name on the table. ;)

Good luck!

Sure they have a reddish purple carapace, with dark purple legs at the top part. When the males mature they are a lot brighter than the females but I'm sure the females still have some of that colour on them.

To me this does look like a juvenile P. atrichromatus. One that's in need of a molt. I've never kept this species in particular, but sometimes juveniles kind of go through an "ugly duckling" phase before they really start showing adult coloration. I'll bet that with each molt it'll develop that coloration. That's what happened to the Phormictopus species that I've kept. There can be a big difference in coloration from one molt to the next. Thankfully they grow quickly.

I was there working the Bug Cage Company Booth, We didn't have those, so it wasn't us, and we have branded bags and pack a business card with the purchase.

Other Big T vendors - Daenerys MotherOfSpiders, Millipedes and More, Spider Shoppe, Spyder Collector
There were some smaller ones, but I have no idea what they had, maybe just Isopods... but here - Spider Sisters, and Bic Bugs, perhaps some of the Isopod Dealers.....

here's the vendor list

most of the bigger vendors pack cards with the purchase, I bet this was a smaller dealer
