This glorious Psalmopoeus cambridgei girl let me watch her hunt the other night. She's still very slim, since her recent moult, so I gave her four adult crickets.

She hunted each one down, went to a specific spot on her cork bark, wrapped each one up, then went back and hunted another. I watched her all four times as she hunted and happy danced.

They know what they're doing. She knew exactly when she had caught all of them, and she could relax and start to eat. What a fabulous thing to just watch them do their thing like that.

What an incredible privilege it is.

I've watched my T. rasti web crickets to a vertical surface and dance around them as well. I haven't noticed any of the other arboreal species I have do the same, but it's a very endearing behaviour.

Amazing photos!

Meanwhile my little Squirt "hunted" a roach that was right under her for several hours and then seemed to forget about it. I think it's still in there.

You have a juvenile female Nhandu tripepii listed and pictured. Do N. tripepii start with black and white before becoming that pinkish blonde -- I don't think I've seen them at young stages before? Or is it N. coloratovillosus?

Nope, that is a tripepii. She is very freshly moulted in that photo and her transparent/greyish exoskeleton gives the impression she is darker than she is. Plus, they aren’t as blonde as they get a bit later around 3”.

In comparison, here is a slightly smaller coloratovillosus.

Those are incredible pictures. I love how you can see such detail on these gorgeous creations. I'm curious about what your using to take these pictures with, I would like to buy what your using if it's in my pocket range.

Thank you. I was using a Sony A57 with a Sony 50mm macro lens. My camera recently died, after more than a decade of heavy use, and I have replaced it with a Sony A58, since the A57 is discontinued.
I love Sony cameras. I love the quality. The A57 was a better camera overall, but the A58 is an excellent choice.
