Okay, I will be leaving for Georgia next Sunday! I am so excited about this trip. I am wondering what kind of invertebrates are there that aren't in North Carolina (In the direct center of Nc). I know that there are scorpions down there and to my understanding, there is only one species in the general area I am going to. I am wondering if the V. carolinianus is in this part of Georgia. I am going to be about 20 miles directly south of Atlanta Georgia. Are there any scorpions in that area? Any other cool things there? Thanks!

When I lived in Atlanta, I never saw any scorpions, but we did see a lot of lizards. However, since you are way south, I searched the internet and found that only Centruroides hentzi and V. carolinanus are there.

You said you didn't see any scorpions in Atlanta and that since I am so far south there might be some. I am only going to be 20 miles south-er-er (lol). Is that really going to be a big enough difference you think?

It might be. I moved when I was like 7 though but I don't remember any.

My dad was wrong about haw far south it is. It is actually around 50-70 miles south of Atlanta. My new question is, are there any scorpions there lol? It is in a county called Monroe county. My dad recently was over there and he says there are pine forests EVERYWHERE. This should be easier to answer considering I have a picture of where I am going. They should be there. I know they are in northern Bibb County and all of Jones County. Look for fallen pine trees and you find some under the bark. How long are you going to be there?

I lived for 20 years in Lamar County and currently live in Upson county, both touching Monroe. There are multitudes of V. carolinianus in this area. Look in the pine wooded areas. Look for fallen pine trees in shaded areas. Fallen trees that the bark pulls off easy in large chunks should yield at least a few. look under bricks, rocks, logs etc. There is an area In Lamar County where my mom lives that I can get around 10 specimens for an hour of looking, same with a place in Upson county. This time of year it is common to find one crawlling around the floor at night or trying to escape the sink. These guys are small and very quick. They are a small species averaging around 1 inch and are a dark brown so can be hard to spot sometimes. They also like to play dead when messed with.

Lived near Atlanta for over 20 years. Plenty of scorps. Used to see them upside down on the ceiling occasionally.
