Well my LP molted and I was messing the skin. So a piece of the abdomen fell off without me knowing and at some point it got on my neck. Later when I felt itching, I smacked the back of my neck. You guessed it, hairs all in my neck. Now when I twist my head, it feels like a million itchy pinpricks. :wall:

What are some remedies? I'm already soaking in a bath.

Tape? Works with cactus as I remember from when I was little. And um, if you're soaking in a bath...is it really WISE for you to be on your computer?

Im not a fan of pills so I use Benadryl spray. I'm not sure if it works, or it just mentally makes me feel better that I did something.

I use a lint roller, helps a little bit. Then I wash the area with cold water and follow this with coating the area with an oily lotion. The lotion will coat any left over hairs and prevent them from entering your skin (in theory).

To remove the hairs, use duct tape or lindt roller. To relieve the itching I use calamine lotion and take some anti-histamines at certain times of the day.

I find that the itching gets really intense around 9pm and around noon. Must be something with the body's daily cycle. Benadryl works great, pills or liquid, but it does make me a bit drowsy.

I love that good ole pink Calamine Lotion, it works great for rashes and ant bites and everything. Good stuff.

:D Well, that's the reason I've been given - by an expert, I might add - that you should use hot water - it opens the pores, relaxes the skin, loosens the barb's grip, and enables release and removal of the offending hair(s).

Maybe it could be that, as different folks react to different pokes, it's a matter of trial and error to see which particular remedy works in each individual case.

Bottom line - try 'em all and see ...

Wouldn't this also enable the hairs to go deeper into the skin?

I work with fiber glass insulation. The hairs are very similar the fiber glass. The procedure I use to relive the irritation caused by the insulation is this: First I take a quick shower in cold water, just long enough to get nice and wet, then I make the water a bit hotter. Then I use a rag and start above the affected area. Rub the rag the same way your hairs lay. This method always works for me.

Yes, but so would all the rubbing, scratching, pulling, pushing, folding, spindling and mutilating involved in other remedies. I'd go with the hot water though, because, as I say, it was recommended by an expert (somebody in the business that gets haired as a matter of daily course) ... anti-itching cream seems to have the opposite effect on me - maybe I'm allergic to it! :wall:

First thing to do is immediatly blow on the area you got heaired to get off the hairs that havn't settled yet. Then run hot water over the area to open the pores and rinse out the hairs. Benadryl, cortizone/calamine cream works good to alleve the itching.
Just try to not scratch alot or it can turn into a nasty rash if you have sensitive skin like me. Most symptoms go away within a day or two.

Well as of today I'm using a calahist lotion and benadryl. Like I said, I got the hairs on my hands while handling the molt and then on my neck from a piece of the molt. I believe when I smacked my neck, it pushed the hairs in. I've broke out all over my body except my face and I itch everywhere so I must be allergic.

I feel for you! I am allergic to EVERYTHING! I am one of those who carries an epi-pen everywhere. And yet I work in the shop with the 10,000+ inverts everyday. We are all waiting for the day I get tagged by something, should be interesting to see what happens.

Here is what We always have on hand at the shop.

Tape, Benadryl, Calamine Lotion (large areas), Benedyl Topical Gel (small areas), and Cortisone Cream, These are your best bets.

Also if you go to the Dr, after you convince them you do not have Scabies, you can get a prescription for an anti itch pill (I will look up name when I get home) But we haven't had good luck with it, It made me vomit, and Ken still itched.

Hope you feel better soon!

You couldn't pay me to raise a LP. I had a .5"-1" (don't remember) sling run up my arm once, creating an immediate stripe (rash) in its wake.

Good Luck

The only way you can deal with pain is with: more pain i scald my hands under searing hot water, washing my hands with soap and then applying some lotion, Itching goes away for few hours and by few i mean good six to eight, works for me.

Edit:
when my L.p. hairs my hands the itching gets so bad sometimes that i wake up in the middle of the night.

I always felt like applying tape or those hair rollers would push more hair into the skin. I've heard your sensitivity to the hairs can get worse over the years from other long time collectors. For sure, for me its getting worse over the years, but Im unsure if its because my collection on new worlds grew over the years as well. More spiders = more urticating hairs:?
