Its fruit-fly season in my house. Ive been feeding my millis plenty of watermelon and cantaloupe to keep them cool but that’s also attracting the fruit flies to my tank. They hang out in there and eat the fruit.

Does anyone have any ways to get rid of them without hurting my millipedes? Its not fair they have to share their food

For reference, I have a glass tank with a mesh top and two front opening doors. I have a feeling the little bastards are sneaking through there…

I have no knowledge of millipedes, but I can say the best thing we have ever found in my house for catching fruit flies is a very small bowl of cider vinegar with a few drops of dish soap in it. They will even choose the cider vinegar over the bananas sitting right next to it, and then drown when they can't get back out. If I had a fruit fly problem in my spider room, I wouldn't hesitate to put one of those on my spider desk next to the enclosures.

For us unhealthy ones, beer works as well :geek:

On my roach bins I use very fine mesh, they can't enter.

No such thing as a fruit fly problem around here. We have to put up with gecko poopee instead. I'd prefer FFs. They won't irrigate a computer motherboard letting the smoke out.

Get them buggers this time of year in WI too. They suck......be careful, I had a bunch of what I thought was fruit flies in my animal room once that were some sort if carnivorous flies that bore holes in multiple oothcae from African Stick Mantis (scofra) and ate and or killed them all!! I HATE them lil fly bastards, lol. Just an experience I wanted to share. 🙂

Nothing beats a gecko bomb in the soup after a hard day at work!

Best is put all fruit parts and spoilage outside where you can watch the salticids have a major party.

Thank you!! I used some old opened wine, that seemed to do the trick! I just put plastic wrap on top and poked holes small enough for them to squeeze in. Not very smart creatures so they got stuck LOL
