I shipped around 35 slings yesterday, priority. Im worried that with my luck some will be DOA. What worries me even more is that I found an extra sling that I packed in a vial on the floor so I unpacked it and the papertowel was bone dry. I sprayed the inside before I put them in, but I didnt want to spray too much because I was told that it could can drown them. So now they have bone dry, scratchy paper towels so I guesse I didnt mist enough. I have shipped slings before, but these things are way smaller than a second instar OBT. I have never had a spider arrive DOA when I ship, but Im so worried that this will be the case here. I packed them tight though.

I received a sling not long ago that was in a tiny deli cup on bone dry towel not even packed (what I would consider) tight and it was fine. I'm sure yours will be too. Fingers crossed!

It all depends on what type of service you shipped it with, overnight or express are always the best way to go.... i try to avoid a regular 7 day transit time. if i or the buyer can afford it... as along as you misted before shipping, i wouldn't worry so much.... you'll just stress your self out and thats not healthy... their are more hardy than you think...
Good luck!!! I hope your slings reach their destination with no casualties...

Peace,
Armando

Thanks guys. Me and the people recieving the slings all agreed on priority because they were trades (so werent though). I wouldnt be so worried excpet for the part about the dry papertowel and their size.

The other thing that will keep me tonight is that these are mostly trades, and if some arrive DOA, I might not have enough slings left to replace them.

Yeah i wounldn't be able to sleep on that as well... if that happens...
If it does u can offer some money... or give him some other T's....
You can't do much now.... no need to stress, just think quick and come up with a back up plan....

I think we all know our risk when we ship.... There are no guarantee's what condition they'll come in...:wall: It suck's, but that is one issue we all share....

Peace,
Armando

Fingers crossed for all to arrive safely! Hopefully they weren't going to far away? I do priority a lot, but I try to make sure to only do that from people also on the east coast.

Well, at least you didn't send them like one package I got back in June. Both the 2-3" G. pulchripes I purchased were shipped in deli cups. The person had cut out a circle in the top of the lid (not sure why...) So one of them managed to push through the wet paper towel on top. Imagine my surprise to open the box & find a T climbing out of the newspapers to greet me :D

I wouldnt worry so much.. I have shipped hundreds of slings & hundreds more scorplings..

I only had an issue twice.. The first one the slings got frozen due to unexpected weather change..

The second one was an issue on the buyer.. I believe something happened to the sling after he unpacked it.. But! I had no way to prove it..

Best of luck bud..

P.S. Armando.. I thought you was suppose to change your way of typing.. You know how the triple periods (...) annoy people.. {D

Mine was sent priority as well and it was fine. I'm sure all will be well. Have faith ;)

I'm guessing that the s'lings that you packed would have more protection against moisture loss than the one that you found as they are inside a box that also has some type of shock absorbing substrate. Also, s'lings are pretty resilient in my experience. Its the juviniles that I've found to be a bit more frail.

Anyways, come up with a plan now as to what you would do if they do arrive doa. I think The Joker summed it up in The Dark Knight when he started talking about plans:

"...Hm? You know–you know what I noticed? Nobody panics when things go "according to plan"… even if the plan is horrifying..."

Good luck.

These will be my first ones. I saw them up for trade and said "Why not". I have kept the occasional emperor scorpion and right now I have had a baby red claw for about a year, but other than that I know very little about them. I do know how to care for the ones Im getting though. Im just dipping my feet in the water before I jump in. But of course, main focus is, and will be, Ts.

Im getting a 2.5-3 inch female Aphonopelma sp. "flagstaff orange" which Im pretty excited about. That one and 3 C.gracilis adults will be here tomorrow.

On thursday some other packages should come in, but those are all scorps. 33 2i C.vittatus and the adult female C.vittatus. The other package will include 2 young (I think 2i) P.imperator scorplings.

And I have a 1.5 inch P.lugardi and another B.vagans sling coming sometime soon along with a black rat snake. Those should be here either saturday or sometime next week, Im not sure when he's shipping.

C. gracilis are interesting. I had one for a while, not prettiest, kind of drab, but interesting just the same.

I just did the same thing :D Getting some T's & saw he had some scorpions that were super cheap & are like 2-3" as adults. Figured getting a couple wouldn't hurt.
