Typical Rosie behavior with water?

I'm guessing here that yes, this is typical.

what is happening:

Any time I give my rosie water in her dish, she will promptly (within an hour) tip it over, and bury it.

If I moisten even a portion of her enclosure, she will climb the wall, and hang out near the top of her enclosure until the substrate is 100% dry.

none of my other desert species do this. rather interesting behavior.

Yes, because Grammostola rosea in particular abhor a "wet" substrate of all sorts. So don't IMO. As for a water dish buried or with dirt inside, it's normal. Just sometimes happens, sometimes don't.

I don't think they dump water bowls because they don't like water. Most of mine are tropicals from wet climates, and I have dumped water bowls too. I think they clear obstacles and fill holes in front of their retreats so that when they're outside and an intruder/predator approaches, they have a clear, fast runway and aren't stumbling on things trying to get back to the safety inside.

How can that be true when most of mine use their water bowls to practice bolus basketball? ;)

That actually makes a lot of sense, I've only ever seen mine cover water dishes when they're closer to their hides and never made the connection until now! :astonished:

On any given occasion when I'm during maintenance, more than half my water bowls have either feces or a bolus in them. It can't be coincidence.

That's why I use 1 oz and 3 oz disposable soufflé cups (by the sleeve, from restaurant supply stores), otherwise I'd be scrubbing bowls for hours.
