I personally didn’t get to witness the egg-laying, but a family member sent it to me. Was seen in Alabama on my uncles property. Thought a few of you here may also enjoy it too! IMG_7912.jpeg IMG_7908.jpeg IMG_7906.jpeg IMG_7909.jpeg

Species? Certainly looks aquatic based on the stripes

This is not something I know currently. But I shall ask, what has your research shown you, Viper!?? :troll:
That it has striped yellow on the right front leg, and that is definitely an aquatic fresh water turtle- of which there are several species. My first guess is a type of cooter. I've seen those before.

But, you know, when image quality is so poor, that even a B&W film pic from 1900s would be considered better, there is not much one can hope for. I bet that "egg" is really a ping-pong ball :troll:

How in the world do you see that?
at the time I was on my phone- and it seemed reasonable.

However, now that I have a big fat monitor, stripes COULD be the dormant grass, but there are dark tones under that (scales) so MAYBE it's the leg.

Hey now now, I know I don’t to tell you that megapixels mean jack when the sensor size in a phone is minuscule and the pixel size density is garbage. It’s not my fault! In many ways the B&W film will always be better! Boy do I miss shooting large format film for that reason!

🤣🤣 I can’t select anything but Like on my phone LAME!!

I’m reading a lot of “reasons” which sound like excuses Ansel Adams😜

I didn’t know you shot large format!!! Wow, I’m impressed! - talk about HEAVY! How long have you done it? I’m only 35mm, though I have a mint condition medium format camera that I’m going to test this summer.

I did for like 2 years. One of the classes I took made us shoot only large format (4x5) for 2 classes back to back. Heavy and a pain to lug around but it was invaluable for setting up and composing to take the shot you want, not gambling on the shot you might get. Especially since there’s no mirrors and you have to compose under the hood upside down and backwards, this really made me see setting up images not in strict subjects but how these upside down components relate to each other in a interesting way (if that makes sense). Compared to just selecting the subject immediately and composing solely around it. It was bizarre at first but then became really amazing. It’s the same way if you shoot B&W you want to try and think about that front of how the shades and tones and light works together without color.

and awesome about the medium format what type? I shot some on my Yashica Mat tlr the other day in addition to two 35mm bodies. I had so much fill to develop it’s not funny I’ve been bad about doing it right away or sending it off.

Turtles are at Risk during Egg Laying Season!
Often Crossing Roads and Highways to Lay in a Suitable Location.

you people south of my border get all the fun.

i never see moose, dream of seeing them, but would give that up any day to see a land turtle do that!

and tarantulas…

sigh.

anyone looking to get hitched for the mutual benefits 🤣

Here, getting the chance to actualy see anyone of our “forest” turtles is near impossible. Their last known locations are a mystical secret, for good reason.

id just love the chance to take a picture, and sit on a log for 6 hours, while i watch it move across 5 meters.
