Yes, for the price tag of them, I do wish they lived longer. But they definitely gave me the confidence I needed to finally take the tarantula plunge. Still have tons to learn!
Tarantulas are less hard to care for in general they have a slower metabolism. Jumpers need constant food it seems ?Yes, for the price tag of them, I do wish they lived longer. But they definitely gave me the confidence I needed to finally take the tarantula plunge. Still have tons to learn!
I love jumpers also but I haven’t kept one as a pet in ages . Because I would catch them outside now I cannot find any because city sprayed pesticides .. but babies are so tiny I’d have a hard time raising anything but a juvy or adult .Ever since finding that one in my yard, I haven't been able to find another.
Nor come across any females. Both of mine are males and the one I gifted to my friend is a male. They are more skittish than my regals, but I enjoy them a lot. Cute little threat postures.
When I say too tiny for me I mean the first couple instars .: it can probably eat pinheads.I have 2 super tiny jumpers I caught while in Colorado. They've molted once in my care and I'm so ready for them to get bigger. I hate fruit flies. Such a pain! View attachment 452525
I tend to use a bit of wild caught prey since mine are wild caught. I use one of my pill bottles to catch small flies against the side of the house or w/e sometimes. I then shake the bottle vigorously to "stun" the fly so it is easier to feed to the spider and does not just take off when transferring it. This year I have cultivated some tiny weevils. Going to see how they are liked. I have a young Zebra jumper right now. Going to see if she /he takes them. Jumping spiders do often take down prey larger than themselves as well.I love jumpers also but I haven’t kept one as a pet in ages . I gotta buy most my feeders here our grass isn’t tall there’s no logs for stuff to hide under .. all my traps I set to catch bugs my mom removed . I caught a few little stone centepedes I’m seeing if they can eat live mealworms If not I’m setting them free . HahaI tend to use a bit of wild caught prey since mine are wild caught. agreed !Funny, we did the exact same thing when we caught flies.
Lasted a few times till I heard the mosquito truck spray one evening. Now no WC items are deemed safe to me.
We do not really have a mosquito truck. I collect from my dad's backyard which is pesticide free. (It is HUGE too)Funny, we did the exact same thing when we caught flies.

I went to the park and caught some bugs I’m exhausted it’s so hard I’m just going to stick to dubia I’ll never find anything I’m looking for beside a few feild crickets .We do not really have a mosquito truck. I collect from my dad's backyard which is pesticide free. (It is HUGE too)
They did spray for tent moth caterpillars in the past but they found the populations were cut down enough that they are no longer spraying.
