Crested geckos can vocalize, although I never hear anything from mine (They live in the room I spend the least amount of time in). One of them did make a squeak of protest once, but that was right after I first got him, and I needed to pick him up (which was stressing him out at the time). My geckos oftren do the "froggy throat thing" and sometimes I wonder if that is making a sound that humans can't hear.

Leachies (Giant Geckos) can make a whistling noise, and can make clucking noises.

My tokays I haven't heard a sound out of. Which is weird because the males are supposed to be vocal. I had a pair of white-line geckos 5 years ago that the male would make a quiet tick tick sound when trying to get the female to breed.

I'd think it would be pretty much the same as most gecko's. Look for what looks to be swelling around the cloaca. if there is a hemipenal bulge than it is male. if not then female. But this is just a guess.

Can all geckos vocalize? I know leos can, but what about cresteds and others?
Most only vocalize when restrained. The loudest I've heard was from a R.leachianus. Kind of sounds like a small child screaming. It's amazing.

Thought I would throw in an interesting Tokay story:

I work at a tropical fish and reptile store and about 10 years ago the owner ordered a medium tokay gecko. Well the gecko got out of his tank and has been living in the store for over a decade! He basically is wild now, eats crickets that hop out when we are bagging them, house geckos (we are in So. California so I guess those must have escaped too) etc. He is very vocal with the k-k-k-k-geck-o! sound, and runs around the store a bit, one week he will be behind the rear racks, another week he will be behind the fish tanks.

The store has high humidity and is always heated at 80 so that's how he deals with the environment.

Customers ask "What is that noise?" and when I tell them they think it is the greatest thing ever.

If you post a good pic of the vent area, you can tell pretty easily. Females have indented femoral pores. Males have "pimples" above the vent. Pretty easy to tell on adults......juvies not as easy. If you can post a good close pic, I can tell you..

Here are two sites with tokay sounds, pretty interesting.

Baldy34, nice pics. A quick note though, when you get the chance i'd switch the basking light to a red one just because tokays are nocturnal and it will stress it out less, plus it won't hide as much. Also I'd give it a hide and a few more climbing branches otherwise nice set up.

its so cool how those tokays reach the other countrys and how they manage to adapt to the new surroundings. tokays are native in our country. well, only males create that tokay sound. cool!!!
