I finally snapped a few pics of my Tokay. He's so active that only one came out, but here it is:

He's big, about 14" I think....He livesin a 24x24x24 inch tank and eats like a pig! He has been my proof to some of my friends that "Hands-off" pets kick just as much arse, if not more, than their "fuzzy-wuzzies". ;P

Nice shot though :) I've seen a couple of tokay's that calmed down and weren't super biters, but only two. Out of those two, I'd had to say that they are the exception.

Hehe, definitely an exception! An old co-worker had one that was pretty tame (He actually gave mt this one, he was _supposed_ to have been a female!) and I was always amazed at it.

Gotta love em! They're beautiful and kick butt. An interesting bit of info on them: Over in Asia, they flay them, smoke them and impale them on sticks as food, sorta like kabobs. Really nasty when you come across them unexpectedly. I just don't understand it.

cool Gecko, I am considering getting one. I don'ty understand why they are so cheap, they go for $15 at the petstores around here.

Yeah, about $10 here. I guess they're way underestimated. Feisty lizards aren't considered good pets! Good, it keeps the price down.

What kind of enclosure do you keep your Tokay in. I read one caresheet that said one can be housed in a 10gl but I didn't think that a 10gal would give it enough room to climb since they are arboreal.

I have a pair in a 45 gallon. It works but one of these days I'd like to give them more room. A guy I know is always saying nothing smaller than a 100 gallons for a pair. But he has a 250, 400, and a 700 gallon that's he's built for his tokays.

It's a two foot cube tank that I got used for $50. Love it! :)

Not NEARLY as much as I had hoped he would be!! He usually only vocalizes when touched. :( Does anyone here know how I can induce him to be MORE vocal?

Just a thought, maybe you could poke him, record the vocalizations, and play them back later? Worked with my treefrogs, long time ago.

Too bad you aren't around here, you could bring him around and we could lay some tracks down.

Mine does too. When I get near his cage, he makes this Geckk Geckk noise and also grunts and has even squeaked once.
