New here! Just a general post. No issues.

I have always been a Old World keeper, I have many, but I began expanding to New Worlds as well, over the last year I’ve gotten 11 species and I think my favorite so far is my Tililocatl albopiloaus. So much personality (you disturb her enclosure at all and she comes right out to see what’s up, very curious and docile) and the most incredible eater. I have to limit her because she’d just take and take and take. I understand they’re good feeders in general but given the ability I don’t believe she’d stop. LOL

I’m also in a situation where my Aphonopelma chalcodes has sealed off her burrow randomly 2 weeks ago, she’s in pre molt I’m guessing.

That’s actually one on my list! Thank you, glad to hear some feedback on them, I appreciate it!

Yep premolt.

I recommend GBB for the color and easiness to care for. But skittish.

T stirmi for the largest species you can get. Down side is they are expensive (100-150 CAD for slings) and their urticating hair gives me blisters.
100% viper gonna shit on me for saying this: "you can also create stunning bio-active enclosure with many plants!"

If you want both colors and size, I recommend Phormictopus or Pamphobeteus sp.

Thank you, JPG. It makes sense that she is. There were some faint signs as well before she sealed herself in. Her last molt she did it in her burrow but didn’t seal it. Unless she sealed it deeper than I could see in which is entirely possible, she has a pretty impressive burrow.

T stirmi was the 3rd New World I got on this new adventure, much much calmer than my OBT and Chilobrachys sp even though I’ve read they can be a handful. It was a must for me to keep.

Chromatopelma is another I’m highly interested in, and I’ll look in to the others. Soon I’ll have more New Worlds than Old haha. Thank you for your feedback. It’s weird to hear from others about this hobby, I don’t know anyone who keeps arachnids. Lol

This week I came across a GRR, completely randomly, and I couldn’t resist, so that was number 11 for New Worlds.

As for bioactive, I originally wanted to do bioactive for my Metallic Pink Toe but I’m hesitant on some things I’ve read, however I have nothing against bioactive set ups.

I'm on the same boat mate, only one of my friend thinks I'm cool that I'm keeping Ts and rest of them think I'm a weirdo. Especially that I'm now reaching almost 100 counts on specimen kept, normal people would think I'm mentally unwell lol
If it wasn't for this forum I would have not learned and communicate with these amazing and experienced folks here.

You are lucky your T stirmi is calm, mine bolts away with a slightest movement..
But despite their hair and the skittishness it is still one of my top 3 species.

GBB is also in my top 3 species but probably #1 overall because of its easy husbandry and great coloration and dense webbing, all in one package I would say.

If you want efficiency I would strongly advise against bio-active, especially if you want to add in multiple plants but have no knowledges on them. Took me A while to find suitable plants for the environment in enclosure, proper substrate and lighting that doesn't bother Ts, balancing of watering so some plants don't have rot root, and battling with gnats for weeks (although they are not harmful to your Ts from my experience) and managing and cutting plants is extra pain in T stirmi's enclosure due to the hair (I'm an idiot and don't wear gloves, and even if I did it still brings out some hairs through tongs and scissors). In the bottom line it takes money and time but I do it because I look at my Ts several times everydayand enjoy it. But I warn you, I got more gray hair from working out the bio active than writing 25 pages essay.

Anyways welcome to the forum and the community.

What is a GRR? I wouldn't do a bioactive for any Avicularia though. I recommend D diamantinensis too, they're somewhat similar to GBB lookwise and carewise, but they don't have urticating setae.

Not at all- it’s about context- op likes feisty Ts, incei are not feisty, but their behavior is far more interesting.
I've yet to get myself an incei, what are their behaviors like?

My albo is the same, she'd eat everyday if I'd let her. Oftentimes, she gets extras the others don't take. Another one that I'm really satisfied with when it comes to eating is my B. hamorii. Unless in premolt, I've never had her refuse food. Plus you can't beat the all-time classic T if you don't have one already.

Oh I’m not for the Avic with bioactive after what I read, GRR is Golden Redrump, I couldn’t think of the correct name.

I’m beyond happy I found this place, I have friends that like my reptiles but no one likes my arachnids, none of T,s, true spiders or scorpions.

yeah I got lucky from what I have read with her, I wouldn’t call her chill, but she’s not like a few of my old worlds by any means, not even close, have yet to even see a threat posture or retreat.

The reason I’m hesitant with bioactive is mostly because I’m hesitant in my skills as it would be new to me and I don’t want to risk my pets lives, not worth it, I’m confident with non bioactive, what I’ve always done and I feel that says enough in the ways of “don’t fix what’s not broken”

Thank you for the welcome and all the advice and recommendations, I appreciate yours and evevyones time greatly!

Yes, I was drawing a blank on the correct name. I know they were reclassified awhile back weren’t they? She was on my list of New Wolds wanted but when I stumbled across her, it was a complete surprise at the time and zero chance I was passing her up.
