Edit: Care*** I blame my phone lol

I’ve been wanting to get into scorpions and I’m very interested in the Tityus genus (along with Heteroctenus, Uroplectes (some), and Centruroides (some). I’ve heard that this genus is quite picky (unlike the other three I mentioned) and there are some species that need more care than others. I’d of course be looking for individuals that are 3i or older/larger.

But, as the field season is starting to near I may be gone a week or two weeks at a time. Because of this I’m decided to make an incubator from a Styrofoam cooler with some holes poked into the side to allow for some airflow, heat mat taped to the side, thermostat and an extra thermometer. I’d add in a deli cup of two of water to keep humidity up as well.

My question is, would getting a Tityus smithii be a wise decision for me? If so, what should I do care wise?

Thank you!

Tityus Sp in general are very sensitive usually

Young require a lot of small frequent meals. Lots of humidity and moisture. Like most slings. They're a high maintenance scorpion. I wouldn't reccomend buying just 1. Buy a group of 5 +

Do they tend to do better in a group? I’m looking to get a 4-5i one as well!

I had gotten 1 tityus smithi. I am glad I found this post I will get more and put them together.
I also had a question about venom is there venom medically significant? And what should someone expect to happen if they got stung?

Grenada and Saint Vincent And The Grenadines host only three species of Tityus and no species of Centruroides.

Tityus atriventer - Grenada (endemic)

Tityus pictus - Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (endemic)

Tityus smithii - Grenada; Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

There is no evidence of their medical significance. Most Caribbean countries are regarded to host mildly venomous Tityus and Centruroides species. But a great rule of thumb in scorpion keeping: better safe than sorry. The variety of Centruroides and/or Tityus that inhabit North America, Central America, and South America overall have a great deal more medical importance to the extent of human fatalities are well documented. Also, under reporting is another factor to be considered. But once again: DO NOT BE A GUINEA PIG. Serious signs or potentially serious signs would be hypertension, hypertensive crisis, hypotension, tachycardia, apnea, bradycardia, pulmonary edema.

Currently keeping two groups of stigmurus, a group of serrulates and a breeding group of smithi.
They all are pregnant and in my opinion fairly easy.
25°, spray every than and now and Feed them weekly.
Corkbark does them a favour and whenever they are hungry they roam around with their pedipalps spread wide open.

That's pretty much it. Didn't figure out why 30-32°C should provide any favors.

Regards
