tips on keeping v.small slings

should be, yes. for a very small spiderling. As the tarantula grows larger it will need more ventilation. at least that's been my experience.

you can go to a pharmacy and ask for 21 guage needles/syringes and tell them you're using them for crafts if they ask, like tiedying (which I use to do and still do sometimes). They're pretty cheap. They're a bit thicker than other needles. I got mine at Eckerd's Drug Store for 14 cents a piece, but you might want to get several in case one goes bad (gets stuff stuck in the needle).

isnt it good if the needles i use are tiny though so there is no chance of the slings escaping?

21 guage needles are very small but larger than say a safety pin or regular 30 guage needle from a 1cc syringe. The 21 guage needles are usually 3cc syringes. No chance of escape, just a slightly thicker needle for slightly larger holes.

would the safety pin still be good for making air holes though? or would it die?
