Theraphosidae sp. Peru Help!

Hello everyone,

I just acquired a "Theraphosidae sp. Peru" as an attached freebie to my A. geniculata. And, as a result, am quite clueless to its proper care.

It is only 1/4" so I've assembled a small deli container with some jungle mix and not much else. I was hoping the Arachnoboards community could provide the proper humidity and substrate - or point out something else that I need to know!

All help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

At 1/4" I'd keep it in a vial or small deli on moist substrate and you should be fine. While I'm not sure what species this may be most spiders aren't very difficult to raise ;]

All you can determine from Theraphosidae sp. "peru" is that it's a tarantula from Peru. :) With the genus and species both being unknown, one can't be for sure what it needs or how it will behave. However, the most you can do as Chris suggested, is provide it with a small container with moist substrate.

Many slings will burrow, arboreal or terrestrial, so you should be fine until it starts getting color. Provide 2-3" inches of substrate.

Seeing where you're located (and based on the spider you've acquired), I'm going to assume you got the spider from Martin.

In that case, the spider is most likely very similar (or potentially the same species) as what we have called "Cyclosternum" sp. "Machalla" (still don't know what genus the spider really belongs to). Except that stock came from Peru rather than Ecuador.

Very easy to keep. I keep all mine on moist substrate with a piece of cork bark to burrow under.

Thanks for all the help guys, much appreciated!

I suppose the initial fright of an unfamiliar tarantula has settled and am looking forward to caring for it! I wonder how big it gets . . .

Good lord that's a vague description of a tarantula!!!
True. But if the genus is still unknown (or undescribed), which is the case here (and is also the case with the spider sold as Cyclosternum sp. "Machala"), it's vague for a reason.

Size?

Mine seems to be thriving and growing like a weed. Anybody have any idea on the potential size of this little beauty?
