Fran, it's quite possible that you have the largest spider in captivity. I wonder how one would officiate something like that? Easier to just weigh it...

I dont even want to breath close to her. :eek:
She is still stretching, molted February 23th. I wont bother her with food for another week at least.
I dont know, but whats for sure is that is one of the largest that I have ever heard of, and the largest I haver seen. The molt was FLAWLESS. Kept at 84F and over 85% humidity.

The carpace was around 43 mm wide in the middle Oo

Is Xenesthis monstrosa a valid species? Never heard of it.
Its a valid species, although I dont believe real ones have ever been in the hobby despite some claims. The picture in the link looks like a Pamphobetues sp.

what about all the Poecilotheria's and Lampropelmas and Chilobrachys (to name a few) who can exceed 10"DLS?
Whoa, which Chilobrachys gets that big? I know there are some pretty good sized ones but if there is one that big, I may have to add one more species to my "must have" list! :D
