Maybe time for a name change… >.>
And yet, despite all that junk in the trunk, she's still got as many feet off the floor as possible 🤣

She heard me talk to Spunk, and wanted to know if someone else was getting 🦗🦗🦗... girl you do not need any more crickets.

Here is a picture of my smaller P. irminia, Spunk, eating a cricket:
PXL_20230727_232319064.jpg

Why, you might ask, is that in Lava's diary? Well, since you brought it up... Here is a picture of Lava watching Spunk eat a cricket:

It's like she can FEEL the chewing in those little feets all the way over here.

I'm surfing the forum in search of the fattest sling, yours is currently top contender!

Pre and post molt. 🤭

Her shape reminds me of Violet from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.
I think my curly hair is up there on the list . Love this thread keep it going !! :D

I love your Lava! What substrate do you use?
It's a mix of a cheap store brand topsoil and a bit of reptisoil. I try to pick the hard chunks out of the topsoil. I also have a bag of vermiculate and sometimes throw in a little bit of that. It's not a measured mix though, just what "looks right" when I eyeball it.

Lava, from just after her molt in early March to now.

How much more are you gonna eat, girl?? She pounced on a cricket yesterday like she'd never eaten in her life. 🙄

Offered Lava a little snack size mealworm but accidentally dropped it in her water dish and had to fish it back out again. Probably the closest she's ever come to a threat pose:
PXL_20230819_012320214.jpg

Much less threatening, nay even comical, when viewed from a slightly different angle:

"You see, when you represent something three dimensional in a two-dimensional medium, you have to adjust size based on distance from the viewer to make the perspective look right. It's an art thing, no seriously, called 'foreshortening', where the parts closer to you look bigger because... Why are you laughing?!"

Lava would like everyone to know that she's still quite capable of climbing the sides of her bin...
PXL_20230822_204024839.jpg
... And that in fact she isn't even ONE leg fat yet...
PXL_20230825_010227555.jpg
... But she's just gonna give her snack a nice cozy hug and not actually, y'know, eat it.

Thick humans? Thicc lava!!
And yet, she pounced that snack in a heartbeat. What a chonk.

She was so intent on protecting her water dish from interference I even got a couple macro lens shots, including the butt of doom she has going.

179 days since her last molt...

That's officially 100 more than the whole last cycle took 🤣

If I had a cup that magically refilled whenever it went empty I would probably defend it too.

Very interesting, never had a T that small defend it's waterdish.

Only T I have that attacks the water dish on refill is my T. vagans but it only started when she was 4 inches.

Now, after last 2 molts she retained 5 inches her predictable habit is enclosure disturbance, run to burrow entrance stick urticating butt out. Disturbance doesn't stop, turn and fight, still sense vibration launch full out attack.

It's interesting to observe her. She clearly can distinguish when it's prey and when it's....well....me.

One time I was refilling her water dish she instantly grabbed it and pulled it immediately away. I had to refill it at a later time.

Your T will be very interesting to observe as it grows and gets bigger. I'm very curious and interested to see what the reaction is.

She's definitely got a history of water dish behavior, even when she was smaller. I think it started with the "bobbing for crickets" incident, and escalated when I would fill the water dish after she was "distracted" with the cricket she'd caught. She regularly eats over or touching her water dish now 🤣

When she does finally molt, I'll be setting up her next, significantly bigger, enclosure, with an actual real hide. It'll be fun to see how that changes her behavior.

Baby Lava already keeping tabs on her swank new baby water dish less than 3 weeks after I got her:

That's when she was barely an inch DLS, with a real good stretch 🤣

"You said I'm not supposed to have feeders bigger than my abdomen so, uh, I've been working really hard and, well, does this mean I can have the big crickets now, like you give EVERYONE ELSE?"
PXL_20230906_070133587.jpg
"Seriously? Tiny mealworm again? I don't know why you're starving me like this...
...
... Fine. Just... Don't touch my water dish."
PXL_20230906_070514197.jpg

P.S. really though, do I get the big crickets now? ... Please?
